McLaren Artura Spider, the First Hybrid Convertible

McLaren has taken the wraps off its first-ever drop-top hybrid supercar, the Artura Spider. This new addition to the McLaren lineup brings more power along with a series of chassis and aerodynamic improvements that are also set to enhance an updated version of the Artura coupé.

Lightweight Champion

The Artura Spider stands out as the lightest convertible supercar in its category, weighing just 1,457 kg. This gives it an advantage over competitors like the Maserati MC20 Cielo and Ferrari 296 GTS.

Power Boost

The car features a Ricardo-developed 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, which has received a 19 hp increase thanks to an ECU remap, bringing its total to 604 hp. When combined with the 94 hp axial flux motor in the gearbox, the total system output reaches 699 hp.

Impressive Performance

With a power-to-weight ratio of 480 hp per tonne, the Artura Spider can go from 0-100 kph in just 3.0 seconds, matching the performance of the coupé. Its top speed is 330 kph, but there are hints that it could go even faster.

Enhanced Gearbox

The eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox has been improved to shift 25% faster and includes a new function that allows the driver to spin the rear tyres from a standstill.

Convertible Features

The Artura Spider boasts an electrically folding hard-top, available in carbon fibre or with an electrochromic glass panel. It can be operated at speeds of up to 50 kph and deploys in as little as eight seconds.

Aerodynamic Focus

Attention to aerodynamics is evident in the 8mm foil on the windscreen that smooths airflow over the cabin. New ducts have been added to accommodate the roof mechanism ensuring proper air extraction.

Global and India Launch

The international deliveries of the Artura Spider and the updated coupé are set to begin in mid-2023. In India, McLaren currently offers the GT, the Artura, and the 750S. The Artura Spider is also expected to make its way to the Indian market, although the exact launch timeline is yet to be confirmed.

The McLaren Artura Spider is a testament to the brand's commitment to innovation and sustainability, offering a thrilling driving experience with the added allure of open-top driving.
