KTM Duke 390 Stealth Black was recently spotted at a KTM dealership in Bangalore. From here, two assumptions can be made regarding the presence of this new shade in India. First and most probably, this could be a dealer level mod as KTM would have officially revealed some images for the upcoming shade.

Second and least probably, KTM would have silently started dispatching new shade ahead of its official launch. First case benefits fans across Bangalore as this shade makes the 390 Duke look more inline with 1290 Super Duke R while second case could soon brings smiles across KTM riding community in India.

KTM Duke 390 Stealth Black

The front fascia of KTM Duke 390 Stealth Black comes with Black outline around the LED headlight while extreme rear section gets Orange along with its Orange/White frame. The alloy wheels and fuel tank now comes in Black, further enhancing looks through 390 Duke sticker job on both sides of the tank.

KTM 390 Duke is powered by 373.2 cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled and fuel injected engine producing 43.5 PS at 9000 rpm and 37 Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.

KTM offers important features like dual channel ABS, ride by wire, LED headlight, USD forks and LCD instrument console with their flagship street fighter. KTM 390 Duke is available with 320mm disc with 4-piston caliper at front and 230mm rear disc with single piston caliper.

Buyers can get their hands on a KTM 390 Duke for around INR 2.50 lakh (on-road, approx) in India. It is undoubtedly the most powerful machine of its segment that not just flaunts paper values but even perform exceptionally well against rivals like Benelli TNT 300.

The same engine is used on KTM RC 390 but that comes with a different tune at 36 Nm. KTM 390 Duke is currently available in a single Orange shade.

KTM India has released the updated price list for its complete line-up for the Indian market. Surprisingly, the brand increased the price for all of its bikes on June 29, 2017 (Know More) and now the brand has dropped the prices after the implementation of GST in India, which came into effect on July 1, 2017.

According to the new tax structure, the bikes under 350cc will now be taxed under 28% slab (down from 30%) and the bikes above 350cc will be taxed at 31% (up from 30%). As the state-level taxes have been abolished, the price in some states have gone down by a huge margin and in some states where the taxes were already lower in comparison to GST, as a result the prices of bikes have increased.

For example, Maharashtra used to charge very heavy octroi on cars and bikes, due to which the price difference between Delhi and Mumbai was too huge before GST. Now, KTM Duke 200 is available for INR 1,46,073 in Delhi, and it is priced at INR 1,44,966 in Mumbai. The price has gone down by INR 1487 in Delhi and by INR 6774 in Mumbai.

KTM India recently increased the prices for its complete lineup. The entry level Duke 200 now costs INR 1,47,563 while Duke 250 comes with INR 1,77,424 of price tag. RC 200 now costs INR 1,76,527 while Duke 390 and RC 390 are placed at INR 2,26,358 and INR 2,31,097. The increase in price now falls between INR 4,063 to INR 5,797.

This may annoy many KTM fans who thought performance could now be bought with a good deal. The recent talk of bikes above 350cc getting expensive under the GST implementation was clearly void in this case as one (Duke 390) gets INR 600 price increase while other (RC 390) got around INR 5,800 of price hike.

Post-GST KTM Price List

  • 2017 Duke 200 – INR 1,47,563
  • 2017 Duke 250 – INR 1,77,424
  • 2017 Duke 390 – INR 2,26,358
  • 2017 RC 200 – INR 1,76,527
  • 2017 RC 390 – INR 2,31,097

Above mentioned prices are ex-showroom Delhi

The major parts in both 390 Duke and 250 Duke are the same (referring to frame, body panels) and rising cost of just one is pretty suspicious. They have launched the KTM 200 Duke with just INR 500 of hike to stay away from criticism but soon after, the rise of INR 4,000 makes it feel even more overpriced against segment bikes like FZ25 and Dominar 400.

KTM 200 Duke is also listed quite heavier than its older BS3 version, witnessing a straight increase of 12 kg. It now weighs 148 kg and produces the same 25 PS and 19.2 Nm. The change in price again frames RC 390 as the flagship motorcycle of KTM. KTM 250 Duke was an excellent product at INR 1.73 lakh. The increase in price will even bring bigger insurance premium and registration cost will also go up for the same.

The price difference between the FZ25 and Duke 250 now feels beyond expectations as both perform equally well. The former costs INR 1.20 lakh while Duke need extra INR 57,000 for the same results. The most disappointing thing is that Duke 200 and Duke 250 are being sold in India without ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), which is a must-have safety feature in these type of performance-centric motorcycles.

KTM 390 Duke witnessed a moment of shame when a rider reported engine case cracking while riding at just 30 kmph. Hardest part of a motorcycle’s body, engine cover breaks down in rare cases, most being fatal accidents and high altitude falls.

Kuber Bhatia, an owner of Old KTM 390 Duke, registered a breakdown when he was riding inside the city. He heard a blast sound from the engine and suddenly, the bike came to halt. The motorcycle was bought in August 2016 for INR 2.25 lakh and has covered just 6000 km.

According to the owner: “I bought KTM Duke 390 in August 2016 and since I have bought this bike it was giving me perpetual problem. There were vibrations, engine oil problems and the list goes on. But today I had a close escape. While coming back from office my bike started giving a very unusual, loud noise and suddenly I heard a blast. When I checked, the bike’s engine (which is made up of high-end aluminium, as they claim) had a HUGE CRACK. The bike could have caught fire or the oil could have spilled over me.”

The owner claims that his KTM 390 Duke has never been into an accident. It was even serviced from KTM Lajpat Nagar dealership at proper interval. Kuber is waiting for KTM India to respond on this issue as no official word on the problem has been received till date.

No possible reason was found in general and only KTM could explain the matter as a bike under warranty should not have brought such problem to the rider. The earlier version of KTM 390 Duke has been on sale in India since 2013.

2017 KTM Duke 390 | Know More

KTM India has recently launched a more powerful 2017 KTM 390 Duke in India. The new motorcycle uses a 1290 Duke inspired design with front LED headlights, sharp taillight and new tank extensions. The same engine has even got itself a new tune, producing 43.5 PS and 37 Nm of torque.

The 2017 version comes with ride by wire, slipper clutch and a new side exhaust. It now costs INR 2.5 lakh (on-road) and places itself as the most expensive motorcycle in the lineup. The huge engine will attract more tax in the new GST slab.

2017 KTM Duke 390 & Duke 125 Recalled in Europe

KTM Europe has issued a recall regarding the new 390 Duke’s faulty LED headlight. The same motorcycle is being sold in India where dealers are silently updating the faulty software that makes the light randomly restart while riding. The same recall has been issued for KTM 125 Duke as it even carried the same LED headlight as the bigger Duke.

However, the Duke 125 is not on sale in India and as of now, KTM has no plans to launch it here. The headlight restart issue was also reported by various owners online as they complained of the headlight going off automatically while riding and coming up again without any notice.

2017 KTM Duke 390 was recently launched in India

KTM Europe said that, “During the internal endurance testing, KTM experienced some cases of sporadic reboots of the LED headlight. As this may lead to potentially dangerous riding situations, the software of the headlight needs to be updated as soon as possible.”

Apart from Europeans facing the problem, this could prove fatal as a high number of roads still lack adequate lighting in India and night driving could bring harm to the rider once the light goes off. City riding is actually not that dangerous but once on highway speeds, one could get into trouble within a single second.

KTM Duke 125 (Only for European Countries)

Existing 2017 KTM 390 Duke owners can simply visit their nearest dealership and get the problem resolved by updating the software that commands the headlight. Some owners have even reported that the TFT console also has same problem of restarting and KTM dealers have assured that both issues can be fixed with the software update.

KTM 390 Duke is carrying the same 373.3 cc, single cylinder engine on both the Indian as well as European version. The engine is good for 43.5 PS and 37 Nm of torque. It comes with the highest loaded technological features like ride by wire, LED headlight, dual channel ABS and TFT console in its segment. KTM 390 Duke comes with a price tag of INR 2,25,730 in India.

The huge KTM moniker is seen in White while Blue has been placed on the tank shrouds at perfect spacing. Red can be seen on the sides of fuel tank itself. Apart from the visual changes, no difference can be spotted in a standard and special edition KTM 390 Duke.

2017 KTM Duke 390 Special Edition Unveiled

390 Duke is built in India and exported to all other markets in a planned manner. The price is even on the higher side in most nations except India. It carries the same metal 13.4 liter fuel tank, all-new sub frame, sharp design and excellent front LED light.

It is highly inspired from the 1290 Super Duke and carries the same sort of stance in its built. The motorcycle weighs 149 kg (dry) and comes with an all new side exhaust in place of the underbelly unit. It is retailed through a partner named Ayala Group in Philippines.

The 373.3 cc, single cylinder engine on the motorcycle is good for 43.5 PS and 37 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and claims a sprint time from 0-100 kmph in under 6 seconds.

Philippines currently follow the CKD route for four KTM models and plans to take the annual assembly number to 10,000 units. It is undoubtedly the best motorcycle of its segment, carrying first in class features like ride by wire, full LED headlight and TFT instrument console with KTM MyRide.

KTM Duke 390 is undoubtedly the best performing motorcycle of its segment. The recent launch of the 2017 variant made many fans happy with that enhanced design while some were more attached to the older design. Those who were planning to buy the 2016 KTM 390 Duke and somehow missed it have the last chance on their side.

A recent report by IceAgeOnWheels on Facebook suggests that a KTM dealer (KTM Boisar, Maharashtra) is offering the last-generation BS3 Duke 390 at an on-road price of just INR 1.50 lakh. Some reports even suggest the price is now even more tempting @ Rs 1.30 lakhs on-road! Still confused about the sale? Here the right story.

KTM-390-Duke-India-2

BS3 KTM Duke 390 Available for Rs 1.50 lakhs (On-Road)

These motorcycles have been registered by the showroom owners before the deadline of April 1, 2017 and are sold unofficially as used motorcycles through the dealerships. They have zero kilometers on the odometer but would be registered under your name with you as the second owner of the motorcycle.

Well, one who genuinely needs the Duke 390 in its old avatar won’t mind this as it saves around INR 1 lakh from the actual price of the current generation KTM Duke. Once these are sold, there won’t be any chance for unused older Duke 390.

KTM-390-Duke-India-3

The bikes are actually the property of their respective owners (dealers in most cases) and they are being offered with benefits like registration and insurance. Numbers are limited and not every dealer has this kind of stock with them.

Feel lucky if you get your hands on one of them as they were the last generation of Duke 390 to carry the under-belly exhaust and lightweight body. The current generation of 390 Duke is 11 kg heavier than the older one while you will miss the new design, console and headlight on the 2016 Duke.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

KTM 390 Duke is powered by the same 373.2 cc, single cylinder engine producing 43.5 PS and 37 Nm of torque. The older version produced 35 Nm of torque while its lower weight made it equally better in sprinting. For those who are shorter in built, the old 390 Duke has a lower seat height while siting position is even better in its case. Although it comes with a smaller fuel tank, its iconic design makes it the favorite among riding community. If you wish to get one for yourself, ask for the same from your nearest dealership.

TVS Apache RR 310S was recently spotted testing in its camouflaged version. The motorcycle was recently chased on a 2017 KTM 390 Duke when it was being ridden at around 125 kmph on a highway. The Duke owner (Purush D Man) was riding at over 100 kmph when he spots a camouflaged bike and enters a chase to find out that it was not just one but two Apache RR 310S being ridden on the same road. The video shows how effectively the motorcycle cruises at 120+ kmph and even offers a glimpse of its front LED lights.

A recent report from GaddiWaadi claims that TVS recently registered the Apache RR 310S name for its Akula 310 with the authorities. The name could help them easily differentiate RR from the naked RTR series, further helping them name future products under the same two series, depending on their body type. TVS Apache RR 310S would be a first of its kind product from the Indian manufacturer, carrying premium features and rivaling the Bajaj Dominar in its engine segment.

TVS Apache RR 310S was recently spotted on a dyno test. The recent reports regarding its launch hints at an official entry in July 2017. The motorcycle was first seen on Auto Expo 2016 in a pure concept form. It was named Akula 310 and shared most of its parts with the upcoming BMW G310R. Akula is a Russian word that stands for Shark as the design of this motorcycle is purely inspired from a Shark’s body design. The recently spotted motorcycle looks production ready and carries Golden finished front USD forks.

The motorcycle that was spotted recently carried Matte Black body shade. The body had no decals while its unique tail light can be seen clearly on one of the images. TVS Apache RR 310S that was recently spotted on the dyno test carries Michelin tyres, hinting at the use of premium components in its build. The headlamps use LED lights and carry one of the most impressive design around the segment.

TVS is manufacturing the G310R for BMW in its plant in Chennai. The parts for BMW G310R are being manufactured by TVS and both will share some of them in their bikes. TVS Apache RR 310S will use the same engine, exhaust, suspension and non-visible components with G310R. The engine tune is not yet disclosed but most probably, it will stay the same as G310R. The parts that were showcased at Auto Expo 2016 were built out of carbon fiber while production version will gain weight through plastic parts.

TVS-Apache-RTR-310-Akula-3

TVS Apache RR 310S looks huge and carries impressive list of equipment like petal disc brakes, sport spec rear mono-shock, optional ABS, USD front forks, LED lights and fully digital instrument console. Apache RR is powered by a 313 cc, single cylinder engine that is good for 33.6 BHP at 9500 rpm and 28 Nm at 7500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and could claim around 150 kmph of top speed. It could be priced around INR 1.60-1.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Major rivals include KTM 250 Duke and Bajaj Dominar 400.

First, he makes the fact clear that the rise in weight is only felt theoretically as the real world performance has improved with the inclusion of ride by wire technology. He gives a 10/10 for the handling of 2017 KTM 390 Duke.

He claims the heating to be lower than the first version as KTM has used a bigger radiator fan to get away from this problem. The seat height is now more in sync with people above 5 and a half feet as other will have to do the same with their toes. The handlebar now feels lower and the bike now definitely feels more sporty than ever. He feels the 2017 KTM Duke 390 can go more than 300 kilometers on one tank and the overall built is simply amazing.
