Honda Jazz is one premium hatchback that rivals Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, and Toyota Glanza in India. The car is available in two different engine and three different gearbox options, with automatic staying exclusive to the petrol motor through the celebrated Honda CVT. Here are five reasons why Honda Jazz is the best premium hatchback of India.

5 Reasons Why Honda Jazz is the Best Car in its Class

1) Powerful & Fuel-Efficient Engines – Honda Jazz is available with 1498cc, four-cylinder diesel engine with 100 HP of power and 27.3 kpl of mileage. Even the CVT-equipped 1.2L petrol motor is good for 19 kpl of mileage, claiming 0.8 kpl more than the manual version. The peak power for this engine is 90 HP, making it better than any other petrol motor available around the segment.

2) Impressive Wheelbase and Boot Space – Honda is using a compact engine bay for the car, leaving more space for the interior with its 2530mm of wheelbase. As the cars falling in this segment are confined to the sub-4m space, getting 354-litres of boot space further brings more possibilities to Jazz nameplate. It offers 1694mm of width and 1544mm of overall height. The fuel tank of the car stands at 40 litres.

3) Standard Safety Features – The base variant of Honda Jazz petrol is the second grade available across the lineup while the features available in the base variant of the diesel Jazz are also interesting when keeping safety in mind. The car features ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, day/night IRVM, rear defogger, keyless entry and much more in the S variant.

4) Tech-Loaded Approach – The middle variant comes with automatic temperature control, telephone controls on the steering, cruise control, rear parking camera, push start button, alloy wheels, smart key and even paddle shifter for the automatic variant. The top variant can be had with a 17.7cm infotainment display, turn-by-turn navigation, and voice command support.

5) Pricing – Unlike rivals with multiple variants that create confusion, Jazz keeps the pricing simple with two variants for the petrol and three for the diesel engine. The top-spec model costs INR 9,35,900 while those looking for utmost comfort can have the VX automatic for INR 9,05,900. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom Delhi.

Honda Jazz Price List

  • V MT Petrol: INR 7,41,900
  • VX MT Petrol: INR 7,85,900
  • V CVT Petrol: INR 8,61,900
  • VX CVT Petrol: INR 9,05,900
  • S MT Diesel: INR 8,11,900
  • V MT Diesel: INR 8,91,900

Tata Motors will soon launch its Altroz premium hatchback in India. The official website of Tata Altroz is now live and you can show your interest by leaving your name, email, and mobile number using a form on the website. The car was showcased by the brand a few months ago at the Geneva Motor Show. ‘Altroz’ is the official name for the production-spec hatchback which is based on the 45X concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo in 2018.

Mechanically, the car will come with a 1.2-litre 85HP petrol and a 1.2-litre 102HP turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon compact SUV. Tata Altroz will also get a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine with a maximum power of 90HP. The engine will come mated with a 5-speed or a 6-speed manual gearbox, depending on the variant. The company is expected to announce automatic variants a later stage.

Well, going by the looks of the car, one can easily get astonished that it’s a Tata. The car looks sporty and has got a sharp laser cut design which looks edgy yet provides the hatchback with a modern look. The sporty stance of the car shows that it will display a commanding road presence. Altroz looks sleek and its contrast colour elements add a dash of elegance.

Coming to the interiors, the car gets elite dashboard design with calming interior colours that are pleasing to the eyes. The company claims that the car has got smartly designed effortless entry and exit that will ensure your comfort in all conditions. It is expected that this premium hatchback will get advanced features and a rich multimedia experience which ensures that every part of the drive is smooth and comfortable.

The upcoming hatchback is expected to launch in India next month. Tata Altroz was even spotted undisguised during a promotional shoot in Mumbai recently. It will directly compete with other premium hatchbacks available in India like the Honda Jazz, Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the recently launched Toyota Glanza.

Meet Heavily Customized Maruti Swift Godfather: This typical Maruti Suzuki Swift carries the honour of being the first-ever bagged Swift in India. For those who are new to this term, bagging a car means replacing its stock suspension with an air suspension that can be controlled at will. Bagging has different grades as some prefer raising and lowering one end at a time while others create such a system that each individual corner can be controlled freely. This setup from Viair allows the suspension to enjoy variable levels of setting at different roads and more than that allows this typical ‘Swift Godfather’ to achieve that ‘Need for Speed’ race car looks.

Modified Maruti Swift Godfather
Modified Maruti Swift Godfather with Butterfly Doors & Air Suspension

Pushing everything to the limits, Swift Godfather comes with 18-inch alloy wheels that wrap an extra wide set of tyres around itself. The widebody kit offers all new bumpers at both ends that mimic race cars to some extent. The front now comes with all new bonnet design and more than that, the grill now feels larger than life with silver inserts and space for its number plate. Headlights are replaced with custom units that offer LED daytime running lights and projectors. Splitters are available at both ends while rear lower half feels more like an imaginary Lamborghini hatchback for sure. Side skirts are also pretty visible.

The large functional spoiler can be seen complementing the overall sporty look of this Swift. Other equipment on offer is Webasto sunroof, aftermarket audio system with large woofers mounted on a custom built platform, butterfly doors and colour coded interior inserts. They have tastefully added red inserts into the interior as the colour flows through the pillars till the boot area. No performance upgrade for this Maruti Swift has been mentioned by the modifier while they have successfully added a second rearview mirror with camera display and touchscreen infotainment system to the car. It simply looks outstanding.

The much-awaited Toyota Glanza has been launched in India at an introductory starting price tag of INR 7.22 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The first ever product launched through the Maruti Suzuki and Toyota partnership, the Toyota Glanza is basically a rebadged Maruti Baleno. The newly launched Glanza hatchback competes in the market with the likes of Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20 and the upcoming Tata Altroz.

In terms of design, both the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza looks the same though, the latter gets Toyota badging at the centre of the alloy wheels as well as on the steering wheel. In addition to this, the Glanza also features a chrome-loaded front grille. The hatchback can be availed in two trims namely G and V, based on Maruti Baleno’s Zeta and Alpha trims respectively. Both the variants could be made available with an automatic as well as a manual transmission.

Here is the complete variant-wise price list of Toyota Glanza:

  • Glanza G MT – INR 7.22 Lakh
  • Glanza G CVT – INR 8.30 Lakh
  • Glanza V MT – INR 7.58 Lakh
  • Glanza V CVT – INR 8.90 Lakh

Powering the Toyota Glanza G trim is a 1.2-litre K12C engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 90 HP and an utmost torque of 113 Nm. The engine has been mated to a 5-speed manual transmission though, the customers can also avail the model with a 7-speed CVT transmission.

The 1.2-litre K12B engine used on the Toyota Glanza V trim offers a maximum power of 83HP and the same torque of 113 Nm. The Glanza G trim has been equipped with a mild hybrid motor while the V Trim lacks the same.

With identical mileage figures as that of the Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno variants, the Toyota Glanza V MT trim offers fuel efficiency of 21.01 kmpl while the G Trim is good for 23.87 kmpl with the manual transmission, and the car is good for 19.56 kmpl for the CVT variants.

In terms of interior, the Toyota Glanza G variant features a 7.0 touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. It also features a GPS navigation system, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver’s seat, voice command functionality, dual air-bags and ABS with EBD for added safety, steering mounted audio controls, ISOFIX mounts for child seats and more.

The Toyota Glanza V variant gets additional LED DRLs for the headlights in addition to the leather-clad steering wheel as well as reverse parking camera. It also gets a follow-me-home headlight feature and gets different LED detailing on the tail lamps. One of the best features setting the hatchback apart is that the Toyota Glanza can be availed with a 3-year/1,00,000km standard warranty in comparison to the Baleno’s 2-year/40,000 km warranty.

Since the news came about Toyota and Suzuki’s joint venture, people were waiting for the first product to be launched by either of the company. Toyota recently revealed the rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Known as Glanza, the premium hatchback was earlier expected to release in early June and now the confirmed launch date has also been revealed. Toyota Glanza will launch in India on June 6, 2019.

With the announcement of the date, Toyota has also released another teaser video, which reveals the face of the Glanza. We have already seen in spy pictures that the Glanza gets a new chrome-lined front grille, and except that, the car is identical to Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno in terms of the exterior as well as the interior. At the rear too, there is no such change except for the Toyota badge in centre, Glanza badge at left and variant name badge on right.

Toyota Glanza Spotted Again

Toyota Glanza will come in two variants: ‘V’ and ‘G’, out of which ‘V’ variant will be the top-spec model based on the Baleno’s Alpha trim level, and below it will sit a ‘G’ variant based on the Baleno Zeta. Interiors of the car are exactly the same as that of the Maruti Baleno. From the dash layout and steering wheel to the colour scheme for the upholstery, the car is practically identical to the Baleno. Glanza has a Toyota logo on the steering wheel instead of the Suzuki logo. Even the 7.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system appears to be the same as the Baleno’s SmartPlay Studio unit.

Mechanically, the car will be powered by a 1.2 litre, K12B, 4-cylinder petrol engine. It is capable of delivering 83 HP  of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque. There will also be a 1.2 litre, K12C DualJet engine with a mild hybrid system. This engine will be more powerful than the K12B and will produce 90 HP of power and an identical 113 Nm of peak torque.

Toyota Glanza Fully Revealed

The K12C motor will be paired with the Smart Hybrid system that uses a lithium-ion battery and will provide a torque-assist function that will improve acceleration. It will also feature a brake-energy regeneration function that recharges the battery under deceleration and a start-stop system that switches off the engine at idle to boost the overall fuel efficiency.

The DualJet Smart Hybrid engine will only be available with the lower ‘G’ manual variant. Its ‘V’ variant will only get K12B engine. Gearbox options for the car will include a 5-speed manual and CVT, but the CVT will only be available with the K12B motor. The fuel efficiency is rated at 21.01kmpl for the V variant with a manual gearbox. The G variant is good for 23.87 kmpl and 19.56 kmpl for the manual gearbox and CVT gearbox respectively.

The main difference for Toyota Glanza would be its standard longer warranty. It is likely to get a 3-year/100,000km warranty as standard like on other Toyota models in India. Coming to the price range, the upcoming hatchback will be priced on the higher side in comparison to the Maruti Baleno, as Toyota will only be selling the Glanza in two high-spec variants. Other than Baleno, the car will compete with Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz in India.

Toyota is all set to launch the Glanza hatchback (Rebadged Maruti Baleno) in June 2019. The much-anticipated car has surfaced again in a new set of photos which gives us a clear view of the interior. In addition to a similar exterior as the Baleno, the hatchback also features an identical cabin, except for a Toyota badge at the centre of the steering wheel. It is now also confirmed that the Glanza indeed features a CVT automatic gearbox.

Apart from a redesigned front radiator grille, a Toyota logo on the wheels and Toyota badging at the rear of the hatchback, the Glanza remains identical to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The cabin features a similar touchscreen display with connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Car Play in addition to an engine start/stop button and black/blue upholstery. On the exterior, the alloy wheels, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, and the ORVMs also remain similar.

Powering the upcoming car will be a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine as seen on the Baleno hatchback. The engine is capable of delivering 84 HP of maximum power and 115 Nm of maximum torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and will also come with an optional CVT automatic unit.

When launched in India, the Toyota Glanza will compete in the market with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, and Honda Jazz. Toyota is likely to keep the price tag for the hatchback above the Maruti Baleno. The car is expected to get a starting price tag of around INR 7 lakh and will go up to INR 9 lakh for the top model. The brand will be launching the Glanza in two variants: G and V. According to the reports, Maruti has already dispatched 364 units of the Glanza to Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

Suzuki Swift Sport Katana Edition is the most expensive and exclusive variant for the popular hatchback, taking the global platform to a next level through a limited production run of just 30 units. The presence of this specific car variant is restricted to the Dutch market and comes based on the theme of the popular Suzuki Katana motorcycle. The sports bike arrived internationally after a decade of absence and brought semi-faired design lines into existence. The car promotes both itself and the exclusive Katana motorcycle, with both sharing the metallic silver paint job to keep fans excited about the limited model.

Suzuki Swift Sport Katana is available with sporty red accents, graphics on the side profile, black race stripe through the bonnet and contrasting roof finish. The car comes with 17-inch wheels and those willing to show some more attitude can opt for the huge 18-inch units on their car. The interior features sporty seats with steering and seat cover flaunting the special edition marks like the car’s number and Katana branding. The engine was not tweaked at all while the suspension is lower on the Katana Edition. Those looking for standard suspension can get the same adjusted while making a purchase.

The 1.4L, 4-cylinder Boosterjet petrol engine on the Swift Sport is good for 140 HP and 230 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, claiming 210 kph of top speed from the model. The car comes loaded with all the everyday features like the navigation, reverse parking system, tire pressure monitoring, and automatic climate control system. Suzuki will first see the response of Katana Edition in the Netherlands and then launch the same across other European countries. The car is priced much higher than usual Swift Sport at 28,999 Euros (INR 22.54 lakh approx).

Toyota Glanza has completely leaked ahead of its official launch, flaunting similar profile to the Maruti Baleno in both interior and exterior terms. The three differences that one will notice in the first look is the use of the chrome-loaded front grille, Toyota badge on the body (including the steering wheel and alloy wheels), and same badge on the key.

Apart from these differences, it’s hard to say if the car is a Toyota or a Maruti. The Glanza will be available with standard Maruti safety kit that includes dual airbags, ABS, and reverse parking sensors. The brand would be offering 3-year/1,00,000 kilometre warranty on the new Glanza while Maruti limits the same to 2-year/40,000 kilometres.

Apart from the standard option, the car will also be offered with 5-year and 7-year extended warranty packages. Toyota would be offering the Glanza in familiar shades that are already available on the Baleno while the features like a rear-view camera, LED daytime running lights, and projector headlight setup is available on the top-spec model.

The two variants (G and V) from the Japanese brand will feature the 1.2L DualJet petrol engine with the same power (83HP) and torque (115NM) output as the current-gen Maruti Baleno. The Toyota Glanza hatchback will be available for deliveries from June 6, 2019. This happens to be its launch date too as the brand will not wait to make its official market entry like most other rivals.

Toyota Glanza claims a mileage of 21.4 kmpl while even the Smartplay infotainment system remains similar to the Maruti Baleno. After the Maruti-Toyota joint venture, when the discussion regarding platform sharing was started, everyone expected the sharing of frame and engine, thinking that both the brands will use different body panels to shape their products. Now, the exactly similar product, that too built in the same facility as Baleno, confirms that the efforts were next to zero by both the Japanese brands.

Ever since Toyota and Suzuki announced their joint venture, it was in the news that Maruti Suzuki will supply its three models namely Baleno, Ciaz, and Vitara Brezza to Toyota, while the latter will supply the Corolla Altis sedan to Suzuki in future. Toyota recently shared the teaser image of the first product to be launched out of this partnership. Known as Toyota Glanza, the car is based on the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The hatchback will launch in India in June 2019, and the images you see here are the first undisguised photos of the Toyota’s rebadged Maruti Baleno.

Surprisingly, the upcoming Toyota Glanza had undergone minimal changes. It follows the same design profile of the Maruti Baleno. There is no difference in exterior design apart from the Toyota badges and a new grille. The front of the car features the same chrome lip on the grille, but instead of the black part in the Baleno, the Toyota Glanza features thick slats of chrome. At the rear, there is no such change except for Toyota badge in centre, Glanza badge at the left, and the variant name badge on the right side.

Toyota Glanza will come in two variants: ‘V’ and ‘G’. It is expected to be available in five colour options: red, grey, blue, silver and white. The teaser shared by the company shows the side profile of Glanza which even wears the same alloy wheels as the Baleno. There are no images of its interior but it is likely to remain identical to that of Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Mechanically, the car will be available with a single engine option. The 1.2-litre, K12C, 4-cylinder BS6 petrol engine is capable of delivering 84 HP of maximum power and 115 Nm of maximum torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox though Toyota will also offer CVT as an option on both the variants. As per the reports, the Glanza hatchback will not be available in diesel.

The key difference for Toyota Glanza would be its standard longer warranty. It is likely to get a 3-year/100,000km warranty as standard like the rest of the Toyota cars in India. Whereas, the Maruti Baleno comes with a standard 2-year/40,000km warranty. It is expected that Toyota Glanza will be a little bit higher in price than the Maruti Baleno. Other than its sibling, the Glanza will compete with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, VW Polo, and the Honda Jazz in India.
