Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition is the closest-possible, technologically-loaded product to the exosuit designed by Tony Stark. For those who are well into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the key fob of this special edition model is good enough to bring goosebumps.

The four regular buttons on one side are complemented by the Iron Man helmet on the backside while the same is seen on the seats along with Stark branding. The exterior of this special edition Kona features a dual-tone, red and matt grey colour combination with Marvel branding on the bonnet.

Hyundai Kona was one among the first cars to offer split design for the headlight section and this special edition is seen with a red surround for the primary headlight. The alloy wheels are dual-tone, finished in chrome/red finish and further complemented by matching cladding on the side. The red armour theme on the car goes beyond these minor inserts as the entire roof is finished in the bright shade along with the side mirrors.

The futuristic bits are available in abundance on the inside as Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition offers a heads-up display with Jarvis-style startup sequence and programmed MID with Iron Man face and a new background for the dials. The gear knob is beautifully carved with Arc Reactor graphics while the exterior rear end features a different bumper, tail lights, and a metallic skid plate.

The Hyundai Kona Iron Man Edition is available in the US market for $30,550 (INR 21.96 lakh approx) for the front-wheel-drive model and $31,950 (INR 22.96 lakh approx) for the all-wheel-drive model. The car comes with a 1.6L, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 175HP of maximum power. As Hyundai Kona Electric has already been launched in the Indian market, an Iron Man Edition for the car will further improve its overall presence.

Hyundai Kona all-electric SUV was recently launched in India with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 25.30 lakh. As the Indian government has reduced the GST rate on electric vehicles from 12% to 5%, Hyundai has dropped the price of the Kona Electric SUV by INR 1.59 Lakh.

The car is now available for INR 23.71 lakh for the standard model, while the dual-tone variant is available for INR 23.91 lakh. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom India. The brand has received around 130 bookings for the electric SUV since its launch in the country,

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister in the Union Budget Announcement suggested a proposal for the GST cut on the e-products so as to promote their use in the Indian community, which will further lead to a much cleaner and better environment to live in.

The government’s main motive is to ensure mass electrification of the cars by the year 2030 and also to push the sales of the electric vehicles in the Indian market. This decision by the government of India has been supported by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

For jogging your memory, powering the Hyundai Kona SUV is a 39.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack capable of churning out a maximum power of 136 HP and a peak torque of 395 Nm. As per a recent media report, a Hyundai Kona Electric has exploded inside a garage at Île Bizard (Montreal), Canada, taking off the doors of the garage and make them land across the street. Thankfully, the people present at the unfortunate event did not get injured. Sources tell that though the electric vehicle was plugged-in but wasn’t on charging mode. The fire service department of Montreal is confused as the reason behind the blast is not yet clear.

The Hyundai Kona Electric was bought by the owner back in March whereas the investigation of the event is in the process by the fire service department. The event is a first-of-its-kind and it’s interesting to note that the car did not just catch fire but actually exploded which is unusual as such events can be possible with a gas-powered car but not with an electric vehicle.

Not more than a cell-level battery explosion can be expected but its impact will not be as massive as this one. Speculations are also there that the explosion must have taken place due to the rising temperature in Montreal, Canada.

The all-electric SUV entered the Indian market on July 9 and has been booked by 120 customers till date. It was launched with a price tag of INR 25.30 Lakh (ex-showroom India). The Hyundai Kona is being retailed through 15 dealerships across 11 cities in the country. Kona is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, which generates a power of 133HP and a peak torque of 395Nm.

The motor of the EV is powered by a 39.2kWh lithium-ion polymer battery that also has a liquid cooling technology. The battery gets charged in 9 hours when done through a standard charger but gets fully charged in 57 minutes when done by a 50kW DC fast charger. When Kona gets fully charged, the India-spec model of the SUV is capable to cover 452kms according to the ARAI standards.

South Korea’s biggest conglomerate Hyundai launched Kona Electric on July 9, 2019, in the Indian market. No sooner, the Kona SUV has been booked by 120 customers within 10 days of its announcement. If believed the sources then a request of 10,000 test drives were recorded.

The huge demand for the product within such a short period must have been satisfying for the company. Kona is an all-electric SUV and a first-of-its-kind product in India. The Korean company has made its best efforts to keep the price range as affordable as possible which is why the SUV is available at 25.30 lakhs (ex-showroom). This exciting price tag was made possible after the company decided to assemble Kona locally in India.

National Sales Head, Vikas Jain, Hyundai Motors India stated that the Indian crowd is excited to try hands-on this new launch which is clear by the number of requests placed by people for not just to buy it but also to test drive it.

Breaking the norms of traditional looks offered by other EVs, Hyundai designed the Kona absolutely alluring. The SUV is available in a wide range of four colours which is Phantom Black, Polar White, Marina Blue and Typhoon Silver integrated with an athletic build. Tested by the leading R&D organisation ARAI, the product had a range of 452 km with a one-time charge.

The Hyundai Kona Electric is equipped with 39.2kWh battery. The battery gets 0-80% charge within 57min to be precise which is possible due to the 50 kW DC charger. Whereas the same task with some ordinary 3 pin charger can take 19 hours. Kona’s motor has a power of 136HP and a peak torque of 395 Nm. The motor is capable enough to speed up the front wheels with a single-speed automatic gearbox that enables Hyundai’s Kona to cover 0-100 kph within a time-bound of 9.7 seconds pretty easy.

Some of the key features of the Kona Electric include a split-type head-lamp setup, LED DRLs, sunproof, keyless entry and exit, automatic climate control options, ventilated front seats, digital instrument cluster along with a huge 7-inch display, fit for entertainment and information purpose.

You can totally rely on the safety features of the SUV as it is packed with six airbags, ABS brakes, electronic stability control, hill-start assist and rear parking sensors and cameras placed to ensure it. The product has been successful in leaving a trail on the international market with an impressive 15,000 sales number. A total of 15 dealers in 11 Indian cities have agreed to retail the Kona.

Speculations are there that if a reduction in GST on EVs became successful then the customers can be befitted by a price drop of INR 1.40 lakh from the current price tag. The Korean conglomerate is said to be on a hunt of providing an affordable EV to the Indian market.

The first-ever all-electric SUV from the Korean manufacturer, the Hyundai Kona was recently launched in India with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 25.30 lakh. According to the reports, in the recent Union Budget announcement, a proposal to slash the GST on electric vehicles from 12% to 5% has been announced, which may lead to an INR 1.40 lakh of a price drop for the Hyundai Kona SUV. Commenting on the reduction of GST on the Hyundai Kona, Puneet Anand, Senior General Manager & Group Head, Marketing at Hyundai India stated: “We expect the GST cut to result in a benefit of Rs 1.40 lakh.” For the customers availing a loan for the electric SUV, the new government proposal can offer them benefits of INR 1.5 lakhs that can be deducted from the interest mandatory on the instalments.

Hyundai Kona will serve as the first all-electric SUV from the Korean manufacturer in India. A recent report also hints that they plan to make this model at their Chennai facility and place it slightly higher than the current generation Hyundai Creta.

No other product in their current international lineup has equal potential to Kona, which they have even checked by presenting the product at 2018 Auto Expo. It was an instant hit and, inquiries started pouring in from the very first day. The first electric car from Hyundai will enter India officially around the second half of 2019.

Hyundai Kona Electric SUV
Hyundai Kona Electric SUV to Launch in India by End-2019

Kona is already on sale in select markets, powered by conventional engines with turbocharging as standard. The top spec model comes with a 1.6L, four-cylinder petrol motor and all-wheel drive layout. The model produces around 177 HP and 265 Nm. For India, the car will use 39.5 kWh battery and a 100kW electric unit that could be as powerful as a 395 Nm petrol motor.

They target to achieve 167 kph of top speed for this motor while single speed automatic gearbox will handle this power efficiently. A total driving range of 300 kms will mean a lot to people preferring clean energy in the automotive segment.

The fast charging option will bring 240 kms of range in just 1 hour, keeping you away from long waiting hours on a standard charger. If bought via the CBU route, Kona will never be an everyday product while local producing can bring this down to an affordable point.

The car also comes with a 150kW motor in some markets, producing much more power and bringing 480 kms in total range. Kona comes with a radical design that may attract more youth into the Hyundai lineup, giving them access to future technology and green energy at a reasonably good price tag.

2018 Hyundai Kona has been confirmed for Indian debut at Auto Expo. However, the entry will only be a showcase and not a launch plan till date. What comes first is that Hyundai will use the same grill on every car in the lineup. It suits the Kona in all ways as higher bonnet complements the use of thick armor style panels on front fascia.

Except for its bold character, basic profile and almost everything stays the same as 2017 variant. The headlights are slim and offer a unique stance to Kona from different quarter angles. The overall dimensions are lesser than that of India spec Creta. Rivals in this segment includes Nissan Kicks and Toyota C-HR, all of them presently missing from the Indian market.

Kona’s top spec model for the US comes with an 8-inch infotainment screen, optional all wheel drive and loads of other lifestyle enhancing features. The wheel arcs are bolder than before while turbocharged engines are now on offer for the best ever driving experience in international markets.

Hyundai’s 1.6L, four cylinder turbocharged engine is good for 175 HP. It is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. However, this engine comes with front wheel drive as standard. The two lower spec variants of Kona are offered with 147 HP, naturally aspirated 2.0L petrol engine with six speed automatic gearbox.

2018 Hyundai Kona2018 Hyundai Kona comes with automatic emergency braking, blind spot alert, active lane control and automatic high beam assist in the US market. Unfortunately, these are only available on the top spec Kona Ultimate. The car will arrive soon on Indian shores while its launch is not presently on the charts.

A report even claims that Hyundai Kona will use an electric power-train in India. The Indian segment differentiation does not allow brands to bring product with length slightly more than 4 meters as it falls within a higher tax segment due to its length constraint. The same can be said true for the new Volkswagen Polo as it even measures few mm over the 4 meter mark.

Hyundai Kona has been revealed through a set of images and claims to get its underpinnings from Hyundai i20. It looks much like international spec Hyundai cars as the same trapezoidal grill can be seen on almost all cars in the lineup.

The funky style with slim headlights help Hyundai place the Kona against Nissan Juke. The large projector units can be seen on the lower side of the bumper. It carries a coupe resembling sideline while the rear also has a bit of unique character in itself. Hyundai plans to share its engines with the international spec i30.
