Another highly-anticipated motorcycle at the Tokyo Motor Show, the 2020 Kawasaki W800 has also been officially unveiled. The updated model of the W800 features a retro design language inspired from the Classic W1 motorcycle that debuted back in 1966 though, the new-gen model has been equipped with a host of modern-day features.

Being regarded as the actual rendition of the Classic W series from the brand, the newly-revealed Kawasaki W800 gets its major features from its Cafe and Street siblings. The motorcycle features a classic chrome detailing on the fuel tank with a unique “W” emblem placed in the middle. In addition to this, the chrome detailing is further continued at the round headlamp housing as well as rear and front fender, handlebar, and the mudguards.

The 2020 Kawasaki W800 features a more relaxed handlebar position when compared to the other W series motorcycles which in turn offers a comfortable riding position. Apart from this, the brand has offered the motorcycle with utmost stability with a 19-inch front wheel that offers “Classic handling” and an unhurried riding position making it stand apart from its more sportier siblings.

Powering the new model of the Kawasaki W800 is a 773cc vertical twin four-stroke, fuel-injected engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 48HP @ 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 62.9Nm @ 4,800 rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The 2020 Kawasaki W800 has been unveiled in a metallic dark green shade while the customers can further avail the motorcycle with a host of additional accessories. The wheelbase of W800 stands at 1,465mm while the 125mm of ground clearance is a little bit on the lower side.

The Kawasaki W800 cruiser measures 2190mm in length, 790mm in width and 1075mm in height while the kerb weight stands at 226kg. The new model of the W800 is expected to launch in the Indian market sometime in the next year.

Kawasaki W800 has been officially launched in India with an introductory ex-showroom price tag of INR 7.99 lakh. It is available in only one colour: Metallic Flat Spark Black/Metallic Matte Graphite Grey. The bookings are now open while the deliveries are going to commence in August.

The motorcycle offers relaxed riding like the Triumph Bonneville series. Not just that, the W800 is a great alternative for those who feel that the Z900 RS is overpriced for an engine size of less than 1000cc.

Internationally, the W800 is available in 2 versions: street and cafe. The Indian market has got the street version and those looking for a cafe racer can get the accessories to compensate. The engine on the W800 is totally different in comparison to rest of the options in the Kawasaki lineup.

The BS6-compliant 773cc twin-cylinder engine is good for 48HP at 6500 rpm and 62.9 Nm at 4800 rpm. The motorcycle comes equipped with a 5-speed gearbox, and an assist plus slipper clutch. The engine is focused on relaxed riding while the street motorcycle weighs 221kg.

The 1465mm of wheelbase guarantees impressive everyday riding character, further improving the way city-riding is imagined by Indian superbike owners. The seat height stands at 770mm and the retro motorcycle offers 15-litre fuel carrying capacity. The front 100/90-18 and rear 130/80-18 tyres are not just good in terms of traction, but also brings the cost of ownership down for sure once a replacement set is considered.

The Triumph Bonneville series is also a very good option in this price range but buyers looking for Japanese reliability and cost of ownership will consider Kawasaki for sure. The W800 Street offers a 320mm front disc brake and a 270mm rear disc brake with 2-channel ABS for maximum braking efficiency. The styling is derived from the W-series motorcycles of the past few decades while the comfortable seats make sure that both rider and pillion enjoy every single ride to the max.

Kawasaki W800 could be the next big thing in the company’s Indian lineup as they currently have one product in all possible superbike segments. The motorcycle is expected to launch next month and offers relaxed riding like the Triumph Bonneville series. Not just that, the W800 can be a great alternative for those who feel Z900 RS to be overpriced for an engine size of less than 1000cc.

Internationally, the W800 is available in street and cafe guise while Indian market could get the first one and those looking for cafe racer can get the accessories to compensate. The engine on the W800 is totally different than all other options in the Kawasaki lineup.

The 773cc twin-cylinder engine is good for 48 HP at 6000 rpm and 62.9 Nm at 4800 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine is focused on relaxed riding while the Street version of the motorcycle weighs 221kg. The front 100/90-18 and rear 130/80-18 tyres are not just good in terms of traction but, also brings the cost of ownership down for sure once a replacement set is considered.

The most powerful factor would be the price for Kawasaki W800, which is expected to fall around INR 7-8 lakh (ex-showroom). The Bonneville series is great for this price but, buyers looking for Japanese reliability and cost of ownership will consider Kawasaki for sure. The W800 Street offers 320mm front and 270mm rear disc brake with ABS for maximum braking efficiency. The styling is derived from the W-series motorcycles of the past few decades and comfortable seats make sure that both rider and pillion enjoy every single ride to the max.

2019 Kawasaki W800 Cafe and W800 Street are expected to launch in India soon, carrying an impressive price range of INR 5-7 lakh (ex-showroom). The retro-modern machines are available with a parallel-twin engine, carrying 773cc displacement and 47 HP of maximum power. The engine is based on the version seen two years back, which was discontinued due to change in emission norms, with Kawasaki explaining how 90% of parts used here within the engine are new and improved. They worked hard on the frame and brought LED lights and a rear disc brake for the first time. The cafe version comes with minimal fairing around the headlight, a single seat with rear fixed panels and clip-on handlebar.

The huge 62.9 Nm of torque figure will bring relaxed riding back into existence. Kawasaki W800 Street comes with a standard handlebar, a comfortable ribbed seat for two and standard round headlight. The console stays purely retro-focused, with the left pod getting the analogue speedometer and digital odometer while right coming with a beautiful tachometer and other lights. The front and rear brakes are available with ABS while tires were kept standard for both the models. The front suspension is telescopic whereas rear gets dual springs. Keeping the legacy alive, Kawasaki is using orange indicators on the W800.

This is what Kawasaki has to say about the 2019 W800 twins: Having little in common with previous iterations, the newly born Euro4 compliant twins are “90% new” with a whole host of styling, technical and practical changes, many of which are, at first, hard to detect. Sharing a completely new chassis, each machine has powerful new brakes – including a rear disc for the first time on a W – as well as ABS and, in another nod to contemporary riding, LED lighting.

Celebrating the fact that “original never goes out of style” both the stripped for action 773 cm3 bevel driven camshaft W800 Street and W800 CAFE can trace their roots back over half a century to the original 1966 W1 650; at the time the largest capacity four-stroke machine manufactured in Japan.

Fully A2 licence compliant and with a targeted maximum power of 35kW*, the authenticity, classic style and seductive good looks of the new W800 Street and W800 CAFE are sure to attract new riders… as well as tempting existing licence holders who appreciate classic style and carefully considered the simplicity of form and function.

Kawasaki W800 would be the first retro modern machine from the manufacturer to enter the Indian automobile market. One unit of the same has been imported from Japan while being smaller than 800cc, it needs compulsory homologation in India. The classic beauty will be the best option for those who always wished to upgrade from their legendary Yamaha RD350 but were unable to do so due to lack of options in the country.

The demand for classic machines with modern technology has been growing in past times, benefits being directly enjoyed by Triumph Bonneville and Ducati Scrambler range. Currently, every Kawasaki bike under 800cc is assembled in India, making more chances of the bike being brought down as through the CKD route. This will again help both the brand and buyer justify their sides on the pricing part.

Kawasaki planning to launch the W800 in India

Kawasaki W800 is powered by a 773 cc, twin cylinder motor producing 47 BHP and 60 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox while uses regular 39 mm telescopic forks for the front and twin shocks for the rear suspension. The motorcycle lacks the charm when it comes to braking components, providing just 300 mm disc with dual-piston calipers at the front and 160 mm of drum brake at the rear. It weighs 217 kg while provides a decent 790 mm of seat height to the riders.

W800 is a strict rival for Bonneville and Street Twin range of Triumph motorcycles while it use of least equipment may not bring such big price tag for the same. It may be priced in the range of Harley Davidson Street 750 (Around INR 5 lakhs), making it the highest displacement motorcycle with the lowest available price for the country. When all the specs for this bike are considered at once, riding fast seems as an odd job for the W800.
