Kawasaki Z250 was not selling in good numbers from the past few months and according to some of the authorized dealers, the motorcycle was discontinued earlier this year. The brand has now finally removed the Z250 from the official website to make way for the all-new Kawasaki Z400.

According to some of the reports, the brand may launch the Z300 as a replacement, but we feel that Z400 makes more sense as it is powered by a powerful 399cc 2-cylinder engine, which is good for 49 HP of maximum power and 38 NM of maximum torque. But if the brand has plans to make Z300 the most-affordable Kawasaki motorcycle for the Indian market, they may launch the Z300 for INR 2.70 lakh, undercutting the Ninja 300 by INR 28,000.

Kawasaki Z250 was available for INR 3.11 lakh before being discontinued in India. The bike was powered by a 249cc 2-cylinder engine, which generates 31.5 BHP of maximum power at 11,000 rpm and 21 NM of maximum torque at 10,000 rpm. The engine was mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

If we talk about the design of the upcoming Z400, the motorcycle features the Sugomi design lines but clearly shows how part sharing was the primary purpose of Kawasaki. Taking a look at both the Ninja 400 and Z400 side by side, one can spot similar fuel tank, fenders, and exposed frame before the rear seat.

The brand has worked on getting an impressive fuel tank extension, equally impressive headlight, and the smallest possible visor for the streetfighter. The handlebar is different, focused at relaxed riding and the motorcycle gets a different set of rear view mirrors. The radiator is also visible in the Kawasaki Z400.

Kawasaki recently also unveiled the new model of the Z250 in Thailand, which is based on the Z400. But as we mentioned earlier, higher chances are that we will be getting the new Z400 and it is expected to get an ex-showroom price tag of around INR 4.70 lakh as the full-faired Ninja 400 is now priced at INR 4.99 lakh, after getting a recent price hike in India.

2019 Kawasaki Z250 is now officially available in Thailand for THB 1,63,000 (INR 3.50 lakh approx). The launch was announced at 2018 Thai Motor Show where fans could have the glimpse of Z400 along with the quarter-liter street machine. Both the bikes share the same design lines, getting a difference in engine displacement as the only unique factor. The Sugomi design philosophy used here is visible on almost entire 2018 lineup of Kawasaki. The fuel tank is aggressive, getting extended shrouds that are not just looking great but highly proportional. The overall body design is an eye-candy.

The front fascia flaunts sharp headlight fairing with completely black visor and visible clean lens indicators. The version seen here is finished in dual tone Black/White shade with Green highlights. The split seat is inspired from the track-specific bikes, most probably as the frame and parts are shared with the Ninja 400. The motorcycle is made for countries with lower tax on engine size smaller than 250cc but Indian market has no such compulsion, allowing Kawasaki to upgrade the Ninja 250 with Ninja 300 for more power. The launch of Ninja 400 further took the power benchmark up for the market.

Kawasaki can either upgrade the existing Z250 or bring the bigger Z400 in the same skin and localize both the 400cc bikes for better pricing. The former will allow them compete in a unique segment while latter will rival Duke 390 and upcoming Yamaha MT-03 directly. The upgrade seen here comes with dual channel ABS as standard. The feature is actually missing from the current generation model on sale in India.

The 2019 model of Kawasaki Z250 is powered by a 249cc, parallel-twin cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. It generates maximum power of 38.2 PS with maximum torque of 23.5 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The console is also shared with the bigger Z-series sibling while disc brake remains single at each end. Kawasaki is improving localization to make all products competitive in India. At present, the last-gen model of Z250 is available in India with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 3.08 lakh.

Kawasaki Sport Bikes to Get Price Hike Soon: Kawasaki India was one among the victims of excise duty increase as they will revise the pricing for all CKD models in India. As prices will go up by 5-7% for different models, Kawasaki Ludhiana is offering all these CKD models at existing prices with additional 8.5% of low interest rate.

The list of models on offer includes Ninja 300, Ninja 650, Z250, Z650, Z900, Versys 650 and Vulcan S. Kawasaki India has the most number of options available in terms of premium sport bikes in India. They have covered almost every segment and their pricing is felt pretty genuine by buyers around the country.

Buyers will get limited stock of this pre-excise duty increase stock and they can call their nearest dealerships for more options on these models. Kawasaki India is planning to move some of its models into local production but still, no news regarding this update was received afterwards.

Government has hiked the excise duty as this will encourage more brands to take the local production route for better placement of their products in the market. Auto Expo 2018 will bring good news from Kawasaki regarding new products and later, they could join the local production bandwagon as KTM does in India.

Budget 2018

Kawasaki India’s present range starts from INR 3.08 lakh and goes up to INR 69.80 lakh for track spec H2R. They have certain limitations and availability of products sometimes make their approach questionable.

For example, if they could have three products on the same engine and platform (Z300, Ninja 300 and Versys X-300), why are they bringing Z250 with a smaller engine and different CKD route.

Local production will benefit them for the 650 series as Z650, Ninja 650, Versys 650 and Vulcan S also use the same engine. Local production till this segment is a great way to survive in India.
