The first-ever official images of the upcoming 2020 KTM RC 200 and RC 390 India-spec models have surfaced online. The upcoming motorcycle variants will be launched in India with a BS6-compliant engine. In addition to this, the Austrian manufacturer is also expected to launch its updated BS6-compliant KTM RC 125 in the coming days.

Coming to the official images, the updated motorcycle variants look more or less similar to their international counterparts, though some minor cosmetic changes have been offered to the graphics on the side fairing. Apart from this, both the 2020 KTM RC 200 and RC 390 will be available to the customers in all-new vibrant colour schemes.

According to the recently released teaser video from the brand, the upcoming 2020 KTM RC range will cater to the audience looking for more street-racer inspired motorcycles as well as splendid performance. In terms of changes imparted to the updated RC 200 and RC 390, both the motorcycles now feature a commanding RC branding with larger “200” and “390” decals. In addition to this, the orange detailing is now absent at the lower edges of the updated machines.

The 2020 KTM RC 200 will now be available to the customers in an all-new black/orange colour which certainly offers it a sportier look just like the recently updated KTM Duke 200. The blacked-out trellis frame accentuated its overall profile while the new orange detailing at the rear complements it further. In addition to this, the updated motorcycle will now be equipped with a dual-channel ABS unit as standard.

Similarly, the 2020 KTM RC 390 will be available to the customers in a white/black colour scheme in addition to getting minor cosmetic changes. The updated motorcycle is expected to feature a revised instrument panel while the overall look remains more or less similar to the current-gen BS4 model.

All the 2020 KTM RC variants have been equipped with an additional catalytic converter to comply with the more stringent BS6 emission norms while the crankcase is now fully revealed to offer better cooling.

There has been no information on the revised power and torque values of the 2020 KTM RC 200 and RC 390 though one can expect them to be similar to the ones generated by BS4 avatars. The updated motorcycles are expected to get a premium of INR 10,000 – INR 15,000 when compared to the present-gen BS4 versions.

The KTM motorcycles model-wise sales report for Dec 2019 is out and the brand has witnessed an overall decline in the YoY (Year-over-Year) sales by a total of 6% while the monthly sales have also reduced by 27%. The gradual decline in the sales numbers for all the motorcycles from the brand is justified since the customers are awaiting the launch of BS6-compliant variants.

Gathering the maximum sales number is the KTM 200 series which has been able to bag a total of 1,582 units in Dec 2019, witnessing a total increase in the overall YoY sales by 71% when compared to only 925 units sold in Dec 2018.

Recording a total of 1,307 units in Dec 2019, the KTM 125 series which includes the Duke 125 and RC 125 have been able to bag the second spot on the list though the YoY sales have declined by a total of 45% when compared to the 2,414 units registered in Dec 2018. Also, comparing the monthly sales, the brand has been able to witness a monthly decline by a total of 38% when compared to the 2,135 units registered in November 2019.

The recently launched KTM 790 Duke has seen the worst decline in the overall sales as the brand hasn’t been able to sell even a single unit of the motorcycle in Dec 2019. The motorcycle had witnessed a total sales of 5 units in November 2019 and has witnessed a 100% decline in the monthly sales.

Launched at a price tag of INR 8.64 lakh (ex-showroom), the KTM Duke 790 is one of the most feature-rich motorcycles from the brand and as per the latest details available, it is now available with a limited-period discount of INR 1 lakh.

Meet Custom-Made KTM RC 390 SRV: Saurav Verma, a student of National Institute of Design, India has recently created a full-fledged Italian motorcycle from the KTM RC 390 as a part of his final project. The conversion of an RC 390 into an Italian sports motorcycle from scratch makes it worthy of a mention and that’s what we are going to do.

Matching the MV Agusta F4 in terms of the final design, Saurav’s production-ready KTM RC 390 SRV was selected for the competition of the modified bikes at the recently conducted India Bike Week 2019. The motorcycle has been developed by scraping off the orange body fairing of the KTM RC 390 and the same has been replaced with fibre-reinforced plastic mountings made from scratch.

The overall design of the KTM RC 390 SRV takes inspiration from a Falcon, which was chosen by Saurav for converting his dream into reality. The body panels in addition to the paint scheme as well as the design of the front apron of the motorcycle have been inspired by a Falcon’s body. The body panels of the motorcycle were carved after the final design with the help of MDF filled with waste styrofoam.

The front cowl has been specifically designed by moulding thin plastic sheets while the front windscreen has been taken from the Honda CBR250R. The side fairing and the rear profile were also moulded with the help of laser-cut MDF parts and joined together with M-seal. The mainframe of the motorcycle has been further equipped with a separate rail underneath it that offers resistance in case of high speed.

Saurav has offered a unique look to the underlying KTM RC 390 by offering a split taillight design and a single-pod LED unit at the front. The overall profile of the motorcycle has been made aggressive with neatly carved body panels. The outcome of the project is something worthy enough to grab major attention and it stands out among the rest.

The first image of the production-ready 2020 KTM RC 390 has recently surfaced online. The brand has reportedly been testing the updated motorcycle variant from the past few months while the newly surfaced image of the 2020 production variant features noticeable styling updates.

Coming to the front fascia, the updated motorcycle features a revised headlight which is now a single pod unit and replaces the twin-pod illuminator seen in the current-gen RC 390 variant. One can expect the brand to offer all-LED headlight and taillight setup to the updated motorcycle. The overall design language of the motorcycle has also been redesigned and now features more dominant lines and contours. The turn indicators on the motorcycle are now well integrated into the body fairing.

The fuel tank of the 2020 KTM RC 390 features revised dual-tone colour scheme as well as graphics though the overall bulkier profile has been carried onto the next-gen variant as well. In addition to this, the brand has also revised the pillion seat setup which can now be removed to access the under storage compartment. The brand has offered the all-new RC 390 with a new blue and orange colour scheme inspired from the 2020 model of the 1290 Super Duke R while the chassis has also been revised.

Powering the motorcycle will be a BS6-compliant 373.2 single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine through the power and torque figures have not been revealed as of yet. The present-gen KTM RC 390 is capable of offering 43.5HP of maximum power and a peak torque of 37Nm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed transmission mated to a slipper clutch as standard.

There is no confirmation if the recently leaked image is of the production-ready motorcycle or just a neat rendering. One can expect the brand to officially showcase the 2020 KTM RC 390 at the EICMA in November next year while it is expected to launch in the Indian market by the end of next year or in early 2021.

KTM Motorcycles Model-Wise Sales Report: The Indian two-wheeler segment has been facing a constant decline in the Year-over-Year (YoY) sales considering the customers are eagerly waiting for the BS6 variants of the motorcycles to roll out along with certain other factors that are causing the setback. Surprisingly, KTM and Suzuki motorcycles are the only two brands who have witnessed an overall increase in the total Y-o-Y sales which can only be justified with the cult following of their motorcycles in the country.

Taking the KTM India sales report into consideration, the brand has been able to bag a total sales of 4,602 units in November 2019. The brand has posted a total increase in the sales by 45% when compared to the 3,169 units of the motorcycles sold in the same month last year.

The most cherished lower-displacement motorcycles from the brand, the KTM RC 125 and KTM Duke 125 have been able to record a total of 2135 units in November 2019. Both the 125cc motorcycles have witnessed a huge rise in the sales by a total of 367% when compared to only 457 units recorded for the Duke 125 in November 2018.

The Austrian manufacturer’s 200cc range has also witnessed a good sales record in November 219 by registering a total sales of 1755 units though, the Y-o-Y sales for the KTM RC 200 and Duke 200 have declined minimally by 16%.

The recently launched KTM 790 Duke has recorded a total sales of 5 units in November 2019 which is quite astonishing considering the hefty price tag. The motorcycle is also one of the top contenders among the most googled motorcycles in 2019.

The other motorcycles on the list include the KTM 250 range and the 390 range which have been able to record a total sales of 456 and 251 units in November 2019. The former has witnessed a gradual decline in the Y-o-Y sales though the latter has witnessed an increase in total sales by 5% when compared to the sales report of November 2018. Here is the KTM India sales Report for November 2019.

KTM Motorcycles Sales Report (November 2019)

1. KTM 125 Series

  • November 2019 – 2,135 units
  • November 2018 – 457 units

2. KTM 200 Series

The India-bound 2020 KTM RC 390 has been spotted testing multiple times and it was expected to launch at the EICMA 2019 but, it didn’t happen. As per the latest details available, the next-gen model of the RC 390 will be unveiled around April 2020 and the India launch is expected to happen by mid-next year.

The next-gen model features an all-new front fascia, side fairing and most importantly, the frame under its body. The sportbike now features the same mainframe as the KTM 390 Duke, covered partially under the new fairing and finished in a dark grey shade. The subframe of the 2020 model of the RC 390 seems to be slightly different in comparison to the 390 Duke.

The tyres, suspension, and the exhaust look more or less similar to the current-gen model of the RC 390, further getting all-black alloy wheels. The fuel tank here feels exposed, all due to the removal of a connecting part between the tank and fairing in favour of the straight flowing panels that directly connect with the face. The front end of the 2020 KTM RC 390 features a completely transparent bubble visor, showing the illuminated headlight under the same frame and wider-than-ever presence with extended fins on both sides. The brand is expected to equip the upcoming model with a bigger fuel tank.

As expected, KTM will replace the ageing instrument console of the RC 390 with the modern TFT unit from the 390 Duke. There are thin chances of modification to that console as it is already feature-loaded and comes with smartphone connectivity, automatic brightness adjustment, and it displays a lot of useful information. The current-gen model of the KTM RC 390 is good for 43.5HP of maximum power and 36Nm of peak torque.

The next-gen RC 390 will come equipped with a BS6-compliant engine and the torque figure may get a bump in performance as Duke 390 is good for 37Nm of torque. The current ex-showroom price tag of the KTM RC 390 stands at INR 2.44 lakh, which is lower than Duke 390’s price tag of INR 2.48 lakh. With all the additions and updates, the new model of the RC 390 is expected to get a price tag of around INR 2.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
