In order to align with the Government’s idea of electric mobility, the country’s security forces have decided to include Mahindra eVerito in their list of the official fleet as a necessary measure to combat pollution due carbon emission.

The idea will be implemented in partnership with Electric Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). This is a Joint Venture of Central PSU under the Ministry of Power. The electric vehicles will be used by the Indian Army in New Delhi where a total of ten cars will be operated by the officials in accordance for the functioning of the pilot project.

The Indian Army will increase the number of electric vehicles in Delhi in the coming future with a motive to better efficiency and reduce carbon emission. All these measures have been taken seeing the increasing pollution in the country’s capital which is why there is a shift towards green alternatives.

Recently, a reduction in GST rates for electric cars was noticed where a drop from 12% to 5% was seen which came into effect since August 1, 2019. Another initiative has been taken under the FAME II scheme, which will make the cars available for maximum people with affordable rates.

Our Indian Army has been taking numerous steps in order to solve environmental issues to some extent. To ensure environmental protection the army has a Territorial Army Battalion (ECO) that has been doing yeoman services such as aforestation. The army officials get posted in areas that are ecologically sensitive and remote throughout the country. All these environment-friendly initiatives are taken in coordination with the locals for the wellbeing of the environment’s natural balance.

The Mahindra eVerito has an electric motor that generates a power of 41.4HP and produces a torque of 91Nm. Currently, the car is only preferred by fleet operators but Mahindra is hopeful to find private buyers for the vehicle as well.

Mahindra eVerito Gets Price Cut in India: Joining the Tata Tigor EV’s recently reduced prices, Mahindra’s eVerito prices have also been slashed by the brand by INR 80,000. The price cuts have been offered to both the products in response to the 7% reduction in GST on electric vehicles. The new GST norms for electric vehicles came into effect on August 1, 2019.

In addition to this, the government’s FAME II subsidy on the commercial electric vehicles have made the Mahindra eVerito’s base D2 variant get a price tag of INR 10.71 lakhs. The prices for the other variants of Mahindra’s electric sedan that can be bought by the private users now stands at INR 13.70-14.20 lakh (on-road prices, New Delhi).

The FAME II subsidy offered by the government on the commercial electric compact vehicles is not eligible on the privately bought models of the Mahindra eVerito. Apart from the price reduction, all the specifications for the eVerito sedan remain the same.

Powering the eVerito is a 72-Volt lithium-ion battery pack capable of churning out a maximum power of 41.4HP and 91Nm of utmost torque. The company claimed top speed for the eVerito scales at 86 kmph while the brand has guaranteed 80 kmph top speed for the fleet variants. The electric sedan can be charged up to 80% in just 1 hour and 30 minutes via fast charging. The eVerito offers a maximum range of 110km (140km for the D2, D4 and D6 variants).

Commenting on the reduction in GST leading to the price cuts, Mahesh Babu, CEO Mahindra Electric stated “Mahindra will pass on the benefits to customers across our entire product range with immediate effect. This tax cut, along with the strong FAME II policy, will see the adoption rate in EV going up drastically with a boost to India’s last-and-first-mile mobility,”

Indian Government officials are facing problems after using electric cars made by Tata and Mahindra. They have refused to use both Tata Tigor EV and Mahindra E-Verito due to low mileage and issues with performance. Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), a unit of Ministry of Power, had earlier acquired these vehicles for official use.

The situation is so bad that these vehicles struggle to cross the 80 kilometers per charge barrier. The situation arising with such battery capacity has forced them to use other vehicles for their everyday commute. When compared to global standards, the value is very low and that too much almost no power on tap.

In the initial phase, Tata Motors and Mahindra supplied 350 and 150 units respectively to EESL while they still had an order of around 9500 units for the government. Out of these Tata and Mahindra had a ratio of 60:40. As reports regarding performance issues have also surfaced before, Mahindra is said to be working on an improved version with better battery life.

No such report was received from Tata Motors. EESL plans to bring 250 more cars on Delhi roads by July 2018 but with such circumstances, things seem to go the other way with lack of charging stations and performance issues.

Most cars come with 35kW battery packs internationally but these two cars have just 17kW of battery power in them. Government’s e-mobility plan includes electrification of cars by 2030 and that needs a lot more research from Indian brands in the field of electric cars.

Government officials are provided with huge sums of money for fuel expenses and using electric cars could reduce that extra burden from the government’s wallet. The next phase of delivery has been postponed to 2019 as lack of charging stations have made thing even more miserable for the officials.
