2020 BS6 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 Officially Unveiled: Along with the launch of the BS6 Yamaha MT-15 at INR 1.39 lakh, the brand has also revealed the 2020 BS6-compliant model of the FZ 25. As per the details available, the motorcycle will go on sale in India in April this year. The updated model of the bike will be available in two shades: Metallic Black and Racing Blue.

In terms of performance, the motorcycle continues to be powered by the same 249cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine which has been updated to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. It generates a maximum power of 20.9HP at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 20Nm at 6,000rpm.

The power and torque figures are exactly the same as the BS4 model while the engine remains mated to a 5-speed transmission. The bike continues to be equipped with telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock absorber at the rear end. The braking duties are handled by disc brakes at either side which is further mated to a dual-channel ABS unit as standard.

The BS6 model of the FZ 25 gets styling revisions that include a revised LED headlamp cluster with bi-functional technology. In addition to that, the bike features a negative LCD display for the instrument console, an underbelly cowl and a side-stand engine cut-off switch. There is no word on the pricing yet though one can expect the updated model to get a price hike of around INR 7,000 to INR 10,000 over the current-gen BS4 model which is presently available with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 1.35 lakh.

The S model of the 250cc street motorcycle will be priced slightly higher in comparison to the standard model.

200cc Bajaj-Triumph Bike Price & Launch Details Officially Revealed: Bajaj and Triumph have officially announced their partnership at a press conference today. The resultant collaboration of the brands will churn out motorcycles whose production will be handled by Bajaj while Triumph will be responsible for handling the branding.

As per the official details available, Bajaj and Triumph will be launching an all-new 200cc single-cylinder bike with an ex-showroom price tag of under INR 2 lakh while the motorcycle will start arriving at the dealerships sometime in the year 2022.

It has also been confirmed that all the motorcycles developed under the partnership will be sold under the Triumph brand name while Bajaj will only handle the production at its Chakan plant in Pune. One can further expect the partnership to bring out the motorcycles ranging from 200cc displacement going all the way up to 750cc. Apart from this, the alliance between Bajaj and Triumph will give birth to an all-new motorcycle platform though no official details have been confirmed regarding the same.

Since the motorcycles are expected to be positioned under the Triumph’s “Heritage” range in the brand’s portfolio, one can expect the upcoming motorcycles to be neo-retro cruisers with well-engineered design. The motorcycles developed from the alliance will be distributed in the international markets as well.

There has been no official confirmation on what kind of motorcycle variants will be developed from the partnership though the chances of retro cruisers seem to be quite high. When launched in India, the neo-retro cruisers from Bajaj and Triumph will compete in the market with the likes of brands like Royal Enfield as well as Jawa.

Nick Bloor, CEO, Triumph Motorcycles said: “This is an important partnership for Triumph and I am delighted that it has now formally commenced. As well as taking our brand into crucial new territories, the products that will come out of the partnership will also help attract a younger, but still discerning, customer audience and is another step in our ambitions to expand globally, particularly in the fast-growing markets of South East Asia, but also driving growth in more mature territories like Europe.”

Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto said: “The Triumph brand is an iconic one the world over. So, we are confident that there will be a huge appetite in India and other emerging markets for these new products. We look forward to working alongside such a famous motorcycle company and to leveraging each other’s strengths and expertise to make the relationship success for everyone.”

As per the recent reports, Bajaj is all set to introduce the smaller-displacement Bajaj Dominar next month. Bajaj’s MD, Mr Rajiv Bajaj ensured in a recent statement that the brand is looking out to make the Dominar more accessible to the buyers which ultimately means that we will be seeing the unveiling of the Bajaj Dominar 250 in the coming weeks.

Bajaj Dominar 400 is one of the most sought motorcycles in the Indian market that is cherished by a host of customers considering its splendid performance as well as superb styling. Despite being heavily priced at INR 1.90 lakhs, the Dominar 400 has been able to create a niche for itself, though the brand has not been able to witness much growth in the volumes. Thus, introducing a smaller displacement Bajaj Dominar 250 would be the solution to all the problems.

Indirectly confirming the immediate launch of Bajaj Dominar 250, Mr Rajiv Bajaj said in a statement to The Hindu Business Line – “art of the exercise to make it accessible to interested buyers.”

The reports suggest that the upcoming Dominar will share its underpinnings with the KTM Duke 250 though the power and torque figures of the motorcycle will be tweaked considering its underlying platform. At present, powering the Duke 250 is a 248.8cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that is capable of offering maximum power of 30HP and a peak torque of 24Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Bajaj Dominar 250 Spy Photos

If the recently leaked images of the motorcycle turn out to be the Bajaj Dominar 250, one can certainly expect the lower-displacement motorcycle to feature almost identical body parts when compared to its higher-displacement version.

The motorcycle is expected to feature the same bulkier profile with the similar USD forks at the front as well as the identical chassis though the brand is expected to offer the Bajaj Dominar 250 with a cheaper swingarm unit. In addition to this, the rear and front disc brakes are also expected to be smaller in size while the motorcycle is expected to feature thinner tyres when compared to its 400cc counterpart.

Some reports also suggest that the brand will be equipping the 250cc Dominar with similar engine equipped on the Husqvarna 250cc range which will be officially launched in the market next month, though there has been no official confirmation as of yet. Once launched in India, the Bajaj Dominar 250 is expected to get a price tag of around INR 1.50-1.60 lakh (ex-showroom).

TVS is moving ahead of other bike manufacturers in shifting their vehicles from BS4 to BS6. The brand has recently launched the BS6 2020 TVS Star City Plus in India. It is priced at INR 62,034 (ex-showroom) for the monotone variant while the dual-tone variant gets a price tag of INR 62,534 (ex-showroom). In comparison to the BS4 variant, it has got a premium of around INR 7,600.

Mechanically, the bike is powered by a 109.7cc BS6-compliant, fuel-injected engine which produces 8.0HP of maximum power at 7,350 rpm along with 8.7Nm of peak torque at 4,500 rpm. There is a drop of 0.4HP of power in the BS6 variant of the bike. The engine comes mated to a 4-speed gearbox while the company-claimed top speed stands at 90kmph.

To increase the fuel-efficiency of the bike by 15%, TVS has offered ETFi (Eco-Thrust Fuel Injection) technology in the 2020 model of the Star City Plus. By transition of the engine from BS4 to BS6, the refinement and rideability of the bike have improved significantly. The brand also claims the better start-ability of the bike in all weather conditions. The BS6 2020 TVS Star City Plus has a kerb weight of 116kg while the fuel tank capacity stands at 10-litres.

Going by the looks, the bike gets a new LED headlamp and a redesigned fairing along with newly designed rearview mirrors. The bike also gets added features that include a dual-tone seat, a USB mobile charger, a new part-digital part-analogue console.

The suspension duties of the bike are performed by telescopic forks at front while the rear end is equipped with 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers. For braking, it gets drum brakes at front and rear, which are mated to Synchro Braking Technology (SBT). The BS6 2020 TVS Star City Plus will rival against the likes of Bajaj Platina 110 and the Hero HF Deluxe.

As per the recent rumours, the upcoming Bajaj and Triumph alliance that is all set to be finalised on January 24, 2020, will bring out the Bajaj Avenger 700 for the Indian market. The impending partnership between the brands will focus on the development of mid-displacement motorcycles that will be equipped with both Bajaj and Triumph motorcycle traits.

The reports also suggest that the collaboration of the two motorcycle manufacturers will result in Triumph handling the research and development segment while Bajaj will be responsible for manufacturing the products. The strong partnership will allow both the brands to reach a wider audience in the Indian market while at the same time offer well-engineered products.

In addition to powering the 700cc Avenger, the all-new engine from the collaboration of the brand will also power an entry-level Triumph motorcycle though there has been no official confirmation received on either of the rumours.

Bajaj Avenger 700
Rendered Image of Bajaj Avenger Premium by SRK Designs used for Reference Purpose Only

Rolling out the Bajaj Avenger 700 would be one of the wisest steps taken by the brand considering the higher popularity of the Avenger range in the Indian market as well as its well-established cruiser design. Since the motorcycle is currently available in the market in 160cc and 220cc segment, the 700cc twin-cylinder engine will ultimately allow the brand to compete in the market with the likes of cruisers like Harley-Davidson Street 750 and the Royal Enfield 650 Twins.

One can further expect the higher-displacement Avenger to be equipped with better suspension as well as wider tyres in addition to getting much stronger chassis though the overall design language will be kept the same when compared to its lower-displacement variants.

The engine on the Bajaj Avenger 700 is expected to be localised in India and it will comply to both the Indian as well as European emission standards. Though there has been no further information received on the same, the brands will be rolling out a liquid-cooled two-cylinder engine that will power their products. One can expect the products of the collaboration to roll out in the year 2021 or early 2022 though we might be able to see some prototypes soon.

5 Reasons Why KTM RC 250 Should be Launched in India

1) Excellence in Performance: KTM RC250 is powered by a 248.8cc, single-cylinder engine producing 30HP @ 9000 rpm and 24Nm @ 7500 rpm. This makes it the most powerful quarter-litre sports bike for India. Honda CBR250R and Yamaha Fazer 25 are both touring focused, making RC250 the dream option for those who wish for a quarter-litre track racer. KTM RC 250 will also be equipped with 2-channel ABS as standard like the rest of the motorcycles of its class. Suzuki recently also entered the 250cc full-faired segment with the launch of the Gixxer SF 250 at INR 1.71 lakh (ex-showroom).

2) Premium Orange Finish: RC 250 was recently updated in both Indonesia and Malaysia. The bike now comes with the same side exhaust and Orange shade as RC 125 for the European market. This combination of White and Orange is still not available on any variant in India. The same shade can help KTM sell more units for RC series.

3) Locally Manufactured: KTM manufactures the RC 125, RC 200, RC 250 and RC 390 in India. The same is true for all four Duke models. The brand recently also launched the 125cc RC motorcycle in India and the RC 250 would be most likely the next big thing that could launch in India.

4) Perfect Expected Price Point: As KTM 200 Duke and 250 Duke have a large number of differences, they still have a price difference of approx INR 35,000. When it comes to RC 200 and the RC 250, the only major difference is a bigger engine. KTM can launch the RC 250 for around INR 2.20 lakh in India. This will even maintain a good difference with the RC 390 due to a large number of additions in the flagship racer.

5) Premium Components: KTM RC 250 is equipped with front USD forks, race-spec chassis, side exhaust and same fully-digital console as RC 390. The track-focused frame on the motorcycle offers a very confident riding position and clip-on handlebars for sharp handling. The RC 250 is expected to share almost every part with the RC 200 and will add 2-channel ABS to the package, as the RC 200 is available with a single-channel ABS unit in India.

KTM 390 Adventure has been officially launched in India with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 2.99 lakh. In comparison, the Duke 390 streetfighter is priced at INR 2.48 lakh (ex-showroom). The pre-bookings for the adventure motorcycle were already open from the past few weeks while the deliveries are expected to commence from the last week of this month or in the first week of February 2020.

Mechanically, the KTM 390 Adventure is powered by the same engine as in the 390 Duke. The 373.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine is capable of producing 43.5HP of maximum power and 37Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It was expected that KTM will tune the engine differentially to make the bike more adventure specific but, in comparison to the 390 Duke, the brand has not made any changes to the power and torque output.

The adventure motorcycle is equipped with a 100/90-19 front tyre and a 130/80-17 rear tyre. Talking about the comfort, the seat of the bike looks wide and high whereas the distance between the tyre and rear seat confirms extended suspension travel on the brand’s latest adventure motorcycle. Moreover, the 390 Adventure has got an ample amount of ground clearance, which stands at 200mm. The seat height of the motorcycle is 855mm whereas the fuel tank capacity is 14.5-litres.

Like the 390 Duke, the KTM 390 Adventure is also equipped with an all-digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. In terms of braking, the motorcycle is equipped with a 320mm front disc brake and a 230mm rear disc brake, which are further mated to a disengageable Bosch 9M+ dual-channel ABS unit. The suspension travel stands at 170mm for the front wheel and 177mm for the rear wheel. The motorcycle is also equipped with switchable Traction Control System (TCS).
