The CBS-equipped disc brake variants of Honda Aviator, Activa 125, Grazia and CB Shine that have been manufactured between 4th Feb to 3rd July this year, have been recalled by the brand considering an issue with the front brake master cylinder. According to the brand, 50,034 units of all these 2-wheelers have been recalled over at the dealerships to fix the impending issue.

The brand has agreed in a statement that the quality issue in the master cylinder of the front brake can cause difficulty in the rotation of the front wheel which can further cause it to jam in some uncertain and extreme conditions. The company officials will be inspecting the vehicles with the said fault before replacing the part.

Commenting on the recalling of multiple two-wheeler variants, HMSI officials stated “With customer safety and comfort its utmost priority, Honda as a precautionary measure, will voluntarily inspect these models manufactured between February 4 to July 3, 2019. Company will replace the suspected part, if required, on free of cost basis irrespective to the affected vehicles warranty status.”

Recently, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India have also been in the news for seizing spurious goods in the raid carried out by Honda’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) enforcement team with the help of the local police. The teams were able to carry out 4 raids in North and East where they have counterfeit spurious parts worth INR 49 lakhs.

The all-new BS6-compliant scooter with a fuel-injected engine will be launching in September this year. The brand has equipped the scooter with an advanced 125cc engine and a redesigned instrument panel. According to the reports, Kawasaki Motors Private Ltd has issued a mass recall of all its Ninja 300 motorcycles that have been manufactured using locally sourced components between August 16, 2018 – March 12, 2019.

The recall has been issued by the Kawasaki officials considering the issue with the front brake master cylinder made by Endurance. The inadequate hardness of the lip seal of the front brake can make it peel off any second resulting in consecutive brake failure.

All the Kawasaki dealerships have started contacting the Ninja 300 owners for replacing the faulty master cylinder with a new one. The changes made to the motorcycle will be free of charge. A total of 1358 units of Kawasaki Ninja 300 have been recalled as of yet.

To reposition the Ninja 300 with a lower price tag and keeping the production costs under check, the brand started to localise few components of the motorcycle including the brakes, tyres, wheels as well as the plastic used for the body panels.

Being priced at INR 2.98 lakhs (ex-showroom) after localisation, the Ninja 300 is powered by a 296cc, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 39HP and 27Nm of maximum torque.

The ultimate price cut for the Ninja 300 after the localisation made it one of the most affordable twin-cylinder sports bike in India. The owners can check if their bike is affected by the recall by visiting the official Kawasaki India website or by visiting the nearest authorized Kawasaki service centre.

Yamaha India has issued a recall for 1874 units of YZF-R3, including domestic and export market. The brand explains that these bikes carry a manufacturing date between July 2015 to May 2018. The brand is coordinating with dealers to cross-check records and contact all buyers affected by the recall in India. The problem is related to radiator hose and spring torsion defect.

The possible check and replacement of parts, if required, will be done free of cost. Yamaha has recalled the same motorcycle for the third time in India. As no owner has complained about both these parts, it was good on Yamaha’s side to clear the problem before anything goes wrong. The number of units include both the ABS and non-ABS version of the motorcycle.

Official Press Release

India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd. (IYM), in accordance to the requirements of its parent company Yamaha Motor Co. (YMC) Ltd., Japan is issuing the information on behalf of the latter which has determined that a defect related to “Radiator hose” & “Spring Torsion” may exist in few Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycles within certain production numbers range.

Although no such problems have been reported anywhere in India, however, as a responsible manufacturer, Yamaha has initiated a factory modification campaign where the affected motorcycles must get these parts replaced with the modified ones.

This voluntary recall is being undertaken to address an issue related to the leaking of coolant from the radiator and widening of torsion spring. The total vehicles recalled are 1874 units sold in domestic and export market, manufactured between July 2015 to May 2018. The affected motorcycles will be repaired free of cost at Yamaha authorized dealers and the owners will be contacted individually.

Yamaha is working closely with the dealer partners to ensure the repair experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.

The KTM 390 Duke made its debut in India in February 2017. It was an all-new aggressive design that was unseen in the market, and it was an instant hit. However, the life of the bike has not been trouble-free ever since its launch. Right from the beginning, the customers have faced quite a number of problems with the bike.

The problems included randomly restarting TFT displays, bugs in the software of the bike, headlamp not turning off even when the key is removed from the ignition, leakage of fuel, the fuel-filter coming loose, and a battery losing charge without any reason. The problems had gone to an extent that the company had to recall the bikes in Europe in 2017 to fix the issues, either by changing the parts or giving the bike a software update. However, the Indian market did not get any recall as such. On an international level, the company kept on upgrading the software, while the domestic market kept on cribbing about the problems.

KTM has continued the trend and recalled the 2017 390 Duke model for a “Monsoon Kit Fitment”. Giving it a tag of ‘Compulsory’, KTM has recalled the bikes on a polite note. The recalling will focus on three main things; they will arrest the vibrations in the headlamps, change the ECU bracket, and change the rear seat bushings to prevent load on the tail lamp.

If you are a proud owner of the new KTM 390 Duke, it is highly advisable to take your bike in for the fixing of the problems, even if they have not appeared on your bike. The problems can arise at any time, but right now, the monsoon kit is being fitted on your bike for no extra cost. All it would cost you is about one hour for the job to be completed.

The newly launched Honda Amaze got itself a recall due to the electric power steering sensor harness, which when malfunctions, makes the steering heavier. The EPS light also comes on when the problem arrives.

A total of 7290 cars are affected with this faulty part, and those were manufactured between April 17 to May 24, 2018. To check if your car is affected by the recall, one will need to visit the official Honda website and enter the 17-digit vehicle identification number. The problem will be solved free of cost, and the process of replacement will start on July 26, 2018.

2018 Honda Amaze is an all-new story, bringing muscular international-spec Accord inspired fascia and updated interior through this update. The car now starts at INR 5.59 lakh, offering two engine options with a manual and automatic gearbox on both of them.

The engines are similar to those available on 2017 variants, leaving no stone unturned with class-leading performance and astonishing mileage figures. The 1198cc, four-cylinder petrol engine on the new Amaze is good for 90PS at 6000 rpm and 110 Nm at 4800 rpm. The engine offers same output when used with 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox.

When compared in terms of diesel engine performance, the manual gearbox model is good for 100PS and 200Nm while CVT restricts the power to 80PS and 160Nm. The shocking difference is unjustified as most brands offer equal power output from their cars with manual and automatic gearboxes.

The diesel CVT claims 23.8 kmpl of mileage while diesel manual is good for 27.4 kmpl. Honda Amaze rivals Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire and Volkswagen Ameo in India. The car measures 3995mm in length, 1695mm in width and 1501mm in height. The wheelbase is pretty impressive at 2470mm whereas size is limited to 15-inch only.

Honda Recalls 3 Scooters in India: Honda India has recently issued a voluntary inspection for three of its scooters. This includes Grazia, Activa 125 and Aviator. The scooters included under this recall were manufactured between Feb 7, 2018 and March 16, 2018.

As all of them are available with telescopic forks at the front, Honda has identified a quality issue that describes excessive hardness in a bolt used in these forks. They have identified 56,194 units with that suspected bolt and thus, will replace it free of cost for all owners where some sort of problem is detected. Dealers will contact the owners through call, SMS and email.

Owners can also check if their scooter falls under the recall list by submitting vehicle identification number on official website of HMSI. They can book a visit in advance and avoid congestion at their closest Honda dealership.

Activa 5G, Dio and Cliq are using bottom link type suspension and thus, does not need to worry about this bolt problem. Majority of scooter sales come from Activa and Dio range while Grazia has got itself a place in top 10 best selling scooters of India. Honda has majority share in scooter market and this number feels ever increasing with introduction of new products.

Honda Activa 125

Complete Honda scooter lineup is based on two different engines. Premium options are offered with powerful 124.9cc motor, producing impressive 10.54 Nm at just 5000 rpm. Basic scooter lineup uses 109.19cc, single cylinder engine producing 9 Nm at 5500 rpm.

The price difference between both engines is still considerable and thus, buyers opt for 110cc option to save on both initial cost and fuel use difference. Honda offers limited number of features when compared to other scooters as handful of option use alloy wheels in Honda lineup. They recently added LED headlight to the bestseller, Activa 5G.

Harley Davidson has issued a recall for 2.51 lakh bikes that were manufactured between 2008 and 2011. They explain how deposits formed within the brake system can result in total brake failure if DOT 4 brake fluid has not been changed regularly after their 2 year program is over.

Engineers will completely flush out the brake fluid and refill the same after inspecting the overall situation. The exercise will be carried out free of cost and service centers will contact the affected users through their registered phone numbers. Harley dealerships of India will also see into this as CVO Limited and V-Rod were sold in India during this period.

They have recently updated the complete lineup of bikes in India for 2018. This includes popular models like Fat Boy and Fat Bob, now selling again in good numbers after the update. Harley Davidson India operates through their independently owned dealerships and offers bikes ranging from Street 750 to CVO Limited.

Brake Failure
Harley-Davidson Recalls 2.51 Lakh Motorcycles to Rectify Brake Failure

Apart from their United States based manufacturing plants, Harley India’s Haryana based facility is the only manufacturing unit in the world. Here, they specifically manufacture bikes from Street range named Street 500 and Street 750.

These entry level products are then shipped all over to the world. Import duties on products imported from US are quite high while locally manufactured Street 750 is priced effectively in India. Recently, the reduction of excise duty from 75% to 50% will help them place their 2018 products at a better place.

Indian buyers still pay a lot more than what US buyers pay for a typical Harley bike. Even after such trade complications, Harley Davidson is India’s highest selling big bike brand from last few years. They have a niche fan following for their impressively built cruisers all over the country.
