Bajaj Dominar is the new winner for its segment, leaving behind the entire 500cc Royal Enfield range by a good margin in May 2019. The 1,888 units posted by the Dominar 400 were good enough to beat 612 units of the Classic 500, 140 units of the Bullet 500, and 133 units of the Thunderbird 500.

Combined, these three bikes were good for 885 units and that leaves 1,003 units more on the side of the new Dominar. Not just that, Dominar 400 is now more powerful than ever, producing 40 HP of maximum power and 35 Nm of peak torque from its 373.2cc DOHC fuel-injected engine. The new model of Dominar now comes equipped with USD front forks, new double barrel exhaust, and updated twin instrument consoles.

The price point of INR 1.74 lakh makes Dominar a much better option than the 500cc RE range while comparison with 346cc series still keeps a strong point for Royal Enfield at INR 1.53 lakh. The difference of INR 21,000 is good enough for many to consider the RE Classic 350 series. However, the power output of 20 HP is just half in comparison to the new Dominar.

Yamaha FZ is the highest selling street variant of its kind, with both Pulsar and Apache having a bigger number but a lot more variants than others. Yamaha has updated the FZ to its third generation, offering single-channel ABS and other important features that are necessary to keep up with the competition. The engine was already a great performer with approx 45 kmpl of mileage in everyday conditions.

In terms of speed, it can achieve 100 kph with ease and reach 120 kph when riding with a tucked-in position. The weight has gone up in comparison to the last gen model but due to a refined engine, the difference is not practically visible with an ideal rider.

Suzuki Gixxer 155

Honda is struggling to keep the sales numbers up for their motorcycle, with xBlade taking away a large share of 160cc buyers in their stable. On the other hand, Gixxer is now available with an updated design for the faired version. It is the most expensive motorcycle of its kind and scored a decent sales number. However, it is expected to go further up with the introduction of round headlight-supporting 2019 Gixxer.

The 1000cc-2000cc bikes available in India are limited to such an extent that the first few were not even good for comparison with any other motorcycle segment in the Indian market. Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is the best selling motorcycle of this segment, posting 41 units and leaving just the Suzuki Hayabusa available for comparison with 30 units.

The Harley-Davidson Fat Boy is the best selling American cruiser while the same space is shared by Honda Africa Twin at 10 units. The next slot is shared by Speed Twin, Scrambler 1200 and Fat Bob with 8 units while Street Bob is good for 6 units.

Harley-Davidson Forty-Eight, along with Kawasaki Versys 1000 and Harley Low Rider shared the next slot with 5 units each. The 1000cc and above motorcycles are typically expensive and those who are planning to upgrade from a middleweight performer will need to spend a lot of money to enter this lucrative segment.

TVS Apache RR 310 vs Kawasaki Ninja 300 (Sales Report): Kawasaki Ninja 300 and TVS Apache RR 310 are two indirect rivals with a price gap of INR 71,000 between them. Still, the former recently posted 174 units in the month of May 2019, left behind by just 1 unit from the sales number posted by Apache RR 310 during the same period.

The flagship Apache RR 310 was good for 175 units, leaving TVS with a not-so-comfortable number for a product that was expected to reach four-digit sales figure occasionally. However, the sales number does not include the version with a slipper clutch and thus, expecting the RR 310 to bounce back with a bigger number in June sales report will not be wrong at all. Even at 175 units, the Apache RR 310 managed to beat the Honda CBR250R, which was good for just 54 units in May 2019.

The former produces 39 HP of maximum power, offering a direct jump of 5 HP over the RR 310 output. As far as the pricing is concerned, Ninja 300 is priced at INR 2.98 lakh and the updated model of Apache RR 310 is available for INR 2.27 lakh. The prices mentioned here are ex-showroom.

The top 10 best-selling scooters in India are following the common pattern seen from the last few years, letting Activa be the leader with 2,18,734 units for the month of May 2019. The highest selling product is still far away when compared to the remaining products, with the closest possible product being TVS Jupiter with 56,797 units in the same period. Suzuki Access is good for 51,414 units, scoring the third position out of all and staying behind with just a few units from the second scooter.

The popular Honda Dio moto-scooter posted 46,840 units during the 31-day period. TVS Ntorq is the fifth best selling product with 21,010 units while Hero Destini 125 got 16,752 units for the sixth position. Yamaha enters the list with Fascino at 15,459 units while Hero Maestro is good for 13,423 units. Honda Grazia has witnessed a drop in the sales number and registered just 11,513 units in May 2019, while Yamaha Ray was the tenth best-selling product with 10,920 units on its side.

The scooters on this list remain almost similar in all months, with last few options switching places with each other with changing buyer preferences. Not just that, the number also depends on the manufacturing capacity of a particular month as less than usual production can bring a sudden drop in deliveries for the fast-selling options. The most powerful scooter on the list is TVS Ntorq while regular 110cc options produce the least amount of power.

The top 10 best-selling bikes in May followed the same trend as the other months of 2019, leaving the commuter-specific bikes on the top of the sales chart with exceptions like Bajaj Pulsar and TVS Apache. The Hero Splendor series was good for 2,67,450 units last month while HF Deluxe followed next with 1,83,255 units.

The top selling slots are not just limited to Hero and Honda bikes anymore as soon after Honda CB Shine (92,069 units), Bajaj Pulsar enters the list with 86,145 units. Hero Passion is the next bestseller with 69,663 units, closely followed by Hero Glamour with 69,379 units. Bajaj Platina is good for 59,938 units while TVS Apache got the eighth position with 41,398 units. Bajaj CT100 got the next position with 38,709 units while Classic 350 registered a huge downfall and was good for 35,998 units in May 2019.

Bajaj Auto has successfully improved its overall sales with CT100 and Platina as earlier, only the Pulsar series was considered the most popular option in the company’s sales chart. Honda is seen struggling in the motorcycle segment as only CB Shine registered a huge sales number and other motorcycles by the brand were not good enough to enter the top 10 best-selling bikes list in May 2019.

Royal Enfield is facing tough times as the Classic 350 has dropped to the 10th position on this list. TVS Apache RTR series rivals Bajaj Pulsar and therefore, both the sport machines have no other competitor on the list of top-selling bikes in India.

As the number of buyers spending more on the motorcycles is increasing day by day, the 300-400cc segment is not getting the required growth due to the launch of Royal Enfield Interceptor at INR 2.50 lakh. The fifth position was taken by Harley Low Rider and Kawasaki Versys 1000 with 10 units each. The number of units keeps on falling down the list before coming to a halt at Harley Street Bob with 0 units. After that, all the bikes were not lucky enough to get even one unit on their side.
