The 2020 Yamaha Tricity 155 has been recently launched by the brand in the Japanese markets. The MY2020 variant of the trike will be available to the customers in Japan from May 15, 2020.

Coming to the updated offering, the all-new variant of the 155cc trike will now be available with an all-new colour scheme namely Blue-ish Grey Solid that has been specifically designed to offer a fresher appeal to the two-wheeler. Apart from the new colour edition, the MY2020 avatar of the Tricity 155 remains the same when compared to its last-gen version.

In addition to new body graphics that have been imparted to the new colour variant of the trike, the brand has also equipped the Tricity 155 with all-new blue alloy wheels to complement the overall design further. The leather-clad comfortable seat features blue stitching while the combination of overall grey with blue accents further accentuates the premium profile ten folds.

The new colour scheme now features revised decals on the front fender while the brand has also allotted blue accents to the tail cowl. The 2020 Yamaha Tricity 155 will now be available to the customers in Japan in three colour schemes namely Matte Grey Metallic, White Metallic, and Blue-ish Grey Solid. The first two colour schemes have been carried forward from the last-gen variant while the new colour scheme replaces the Matte Vivid Purplish Blue Metallic colour scheme available with its last-gen avatar.

Powering the trike is the same 155cc, single-cylinder, water-cooled, 4-stroke engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 15 HP at 8000 rpm and a peak torque of 14 Nm at 6000 rpm. The engine remains mated to a CVT gearbox while the fuel efficiency stands at 41.7 kmpl. The all-new graphics as well as alloy wheels setup is only available for the new colour scheme.

The customers can avail the 2020 Yamaha Tricity 155 at a price tag of JPY 484,000 (INR 3.42 lakh) which is identical to the price tag of its last-gen version. The brand has currently targeted selling 1200 units of the trike in Japan in the FY2020. As of now, Yamaha has no plans to launch the Tricity 155 in the Indian markets.

Hero Electric has officially revealed India’s first electric trike at the Auto Expo 2020. Christened as AE-3, the all-new product has been showcased alongside a new electric scooter and an e-bike that deliver impressive performance numbers. The AE-3 electric trike is powered by a 3.0kW motor that gives out a claimed top speed of 80kmph along with a range of 100km.

The Hero Electric AE-3 trike is equipped with a Lithium-ion 48V/2.4kWh battery that can be fully charged in 5 hours. Before the introduction of AE-3 trike, Hero Electric’s lineup only consisted of affordable, low-performance scooters that do not offer good output figures. Hero Electric has revealed that the AE-3 trike will be registered as a conventional electric two-wheeler.

The Hero Electric AE-3 trike is equipped with a self-standing stability feature, because of the onboard gyroscope. In addition to it, the scooter gets an ‘Auto Balance Park Switch’ that can give the scooter the ability to balance itself while it is parked.

According to the brand, the AE-3 trike also has a reverse assist system which will be quite useful as the scooter weighs nearly 140kg. The braking duties of the scooter are performed by dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc brake at the rear.

In terms of features, the AE-3 is equipped with a fully-digital instrument console that offers mobile connectivity, GPS, real-time tracking and more. The screen will most probably display basic information like the remaining range and charge among the other things.

It is for sure that the AE-3 electric scooter will not be as affordable as other Hero Electric models available in the Indian market. Because of its three-wheel setup and impressive performance numbers, the expected price tag of the scooter lies between INR 1.50-2.00 lakh (ex-showroom).

Three-wheel vehicle prototypes are the new trend for the major vehicle manufacturers though Yamaha NIKEN is the only trike available for sale in the market. Coming to the latest news on the same, Honda has been granted a patent for its three-wheel motorcycle, NeoWing. The trike was first showcased as a concept in 2015 at the Tokyo Motor Show while the brand filed for the patent in 2016.

Honda received the green signal from the European Patent Office last month. According to the recent happenings, the trike would be available in the market sooner than expected, though the unveiling date has not been officially announced as of yet.

Honda NeoWing is expected to be based on the same engine specifications as that of the Gold Wing. The single wheel at the back is connected to the engine while the dual front wheels are connected to the steering. The bike can lean into corners just like other bikes but would offer more stability and control.

According to the patent, the Honda NeoWing might feature a 6-cylinder engine borrowed from the Gold Wing though, the company does suggest a 2-cylinder engine also. Judging from this, the brand might introduce the three-wheeler with two engine specifications, giving the Yamaha NIKEN a tough competition by launching an entry-level model of NeoWing powered by a 2-cylinder engine. Powering the Yamaha NIKEN is an 847cc, three-cylinder engine that churns out a maximum power of 115 HP at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 87.5 Nm at 8,500 rpm.

On the other hand, it is also being rumoured that Honda might also equip the NeoWing with a hybrid motor unit where the 4-cylinder engine and the electric motor will offer massive torque output. When launched in the International market, the Honda NeoWing would be represented as a premium offering in the brand’s lineup.
