6 Yamaha Bikes Discontinued in India: As per the official website of Yamaha Motor India, the brand has discontinued six of its BS4 bikes. At present, only six bikes are listed on the brand’s website – R15 V3, MT-15, FZ V3, FZS V3, MT-09 supernaked and the YZF-R1 superbike.

Yamaha was expected to offer only a few of its most cherished bikes with a BS6-compliant engine while the remaining were expected to be discontinued. The bikes that will no longer be available for sale under the brand’s portfolio includes the likes of Saluto RX 110, Saluto 125, SZ-RR Version 2.0, FZ25, Fazer 25, and the YZF-R3.

Yamaha Saluto RX 110

The Yamaha Saluto RX was launched in the Indian markets back in 2016 and featured a 110cc engine. The motorcycle wasn’t able to register respectable sales numbers when compared to its competitors under brands like TVS, Bajaj, Hero and Honda. The motorcycle with a BS4-compliant engine was available in India at a price tag of INR 52,350 (ex-showroom).

Yamaha Saluto 125

The Saluto 125 was a 125cc upgrade offered to the Saluto RX and was capable of offering 8.3HP of maximum power and 10.1Nm of peak torque. Finished with attractive graphic detailing, the 125cc Saluto was available in the markets at a price tag of INR 60,850 (ex-showroom).

Yamaha SZ-RR Version 2.0

Another motorcycle from the brand that has seen the dust is the Yamaha SZ-RR Version 2.0 which featured a 150cc engine with decent body design as well as attractive graphics. The motorcycle was not able to register decent sales back in its lifetime thus the reason for it being discontinued.

Yamaha Fazer 25
Yamaha Fazer 25 | 6 Yamaha Bikes Discontinued in India

The Yamaha Fazer 25 was powered by a 249cc engine that was capable of offering maximum power of 20.9HP and a peak torque of 20Nm. The motorcycle featured stylish graphics as well as notable accents on its body panels, but still, a lot of people disliked the overall design of the motorcycle. As a result, the brand didn’t offer it a BS6-compliant engine.

Yamaha Motor India has also removed the FZ25 from its official website but the brand has promised to launch the 2020 BS6-compliant model in the coming weeks. In addition to the FZ25, Yamaha will also launch a more premium version of the 250cc FZ later this year, and it will be launched as FZS 25.

The BS6 Yamaha FZ25 was revealed by the brand a few days ago in parallel to the launch of the 2020 MT-15. The latest reports suggest that the updated motorcycle will be officially launched sometime in April 2020. The motorcycle is expected to get a minor premium of INR 7,000 to INR 10,000 over its BS4 price tag which currently stands at INR 1,34,680 (ex-showroom) in the Indian market.

The updated motorcycle variant will be available to the customers in two new colour schemes namely Metallic Black and Racing Blue. The brand has equipped the motorcycle with an all-new LED headlight unit with a bi-functional technology. The BS6 model has been further equipped with a side-stand engine cut-off switch that prevents the rider from starting the motorcycle if the side stand is down. In addition to this, the BS6 Yamaha FZ25 has been equipped with an updated instrument console with a negative LCD.

Mechanically, the bike is powered by the similar 249cc, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine that is now BS6-compliant and is capable of offering maximum power of 20.9HP @ 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 20Nm @ 6,000 rpm. The engine remains mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The performance figures of the BS6 Yamaha FZ25 remain similar to the ones offered by its BS4 counterpart. The braking department is handled by disc brakes at either side mated to dual-channel ABS as before. The suspension setup includes the similar telescopic forks at the front while the rear has been equipped with a monoshock unit.

As a part of the precautionary measure, Yamaha India has issued a recall for its 250cc models – FZ25 and Fazer25. The said recall has been issued in order to resolve a problem that is related to the engine head cover bolt of the motorcycles. As notified in a press release, around 13,348 units have been recalled among which 12,620 units are of FZ25 and 728 units belong to the Fazer25.

Yamaha FZ25

It has been reported that the owners of the said models will be contacted individually by the company and the repair operation will be carried out free of cost at Yamaha’s authorised service centres.

We tried to dig deep into the matter in order to understand the gist of the problems and we found out that issues have been detected regarding the cam cover of the engine head where the gasket and o-ring have to be replaced with new bolts and will be sealed with an adhesive called Loctite.

Yamaha Fazer25
Yamaha Fazer25

Due to the reported issue, the engine could get seized in case these bolts get loose and fall into the engine while running. Hence, it has been recommended to the owners of the said models to take their bikes to the nearest Yamaha authorised service centre as early as possible. The whole process won’t cost much of your time as it takes only 10-20 minutes. You can click here to check whether your bike is affected by the recall or not.

Reasons to Buy 2019 Yamaha FZ25: Yamaha recently launched the new FZ25 ABS in India with a price tag of INR 1,33,680 (ex-showroom). The motorcycle shares some of the components with the 149cc FZ series while most of the visual parts are new on the FZ25. It has been launched in Matt Black, Dark Matt Blue and Cyan Blue shades. Here are 7 reasons to buy the 2019 Yamaha FZ25 over any other bike in its segment.

2019 Yamaha FZ25
2019 Yamaha FZ25 Street Fighter

7 Reasons to Buy 2019 Yamaha FZ25

1) It’s a Yamaha

Yamaha motorcycles are known for their excellent built quality and FZ25 is no different in those terms. It uses premium parts like 41 mm front forks, wider tyres and first in class features like instantaneous fuel efficiency and LED headlight. Apart from that, the after-sales service and part availability have never been an issue with the company. The charm created by the first ever FZ could be repeated through the quarter-litre machine.

2) High on Torque

The 249cc, fuel injected, oil cooled engine is good for 20 Nm of torque at just 6000 rpm. This makes it better for everyday riding as no other bike around the price tag of INR 1.33 lakh has such magic in its engine. Others like Apache RTR 200, Pulsar RS200 and KTM 200 Duke deliver their maximum torque at around 7000-8000 rpm while even then the torque output value is lower as compared to the FZ25. It’s not built for top speed as the core belief of the engine is crisp acceleration and powerful drive.

3) Dual-Channel ABS

The disc brakes on the new FZ25 support 2-channel ABS for additional safety of the rider. Most products around this price segment are available with single channel ABS and saving money on the FZ25 by removing the ABS sensor from the rear disc was never on the plans of Yamaha India. The front brake measures 282mm while the rear is 220mm.

4) Lightweight & Excellent Mileage

Yamaha FZ25 weighs just 152 kg and that too with a fuel tank that has 14 litres of capacity. This helps in delivering the excellent 43 kmpl of Yamaha claimed mileage. Other bikes that carry a quarter litre engine mostly weigh between 155-165 kg in the Indian market.  The tank extensions are aerodynamic and the overall design facilitates a powerful presence. Yamaha’s Blue Core technology helps in keeping performance high and expenses low.

FZ25 All-Digital Instrument Console
All-Digital Instrument Console

5) Full Digital Console

The instrument console on the motorcycle is crystal clear and offers a single screen that holds the tachometer, speedometer, odometer, two trip-meters and values like average as well as instantaneous fuel efficiency. The fuel gauge is even digital on the FZ25. The portion that is finished in Gloss Black holds the LED indicator lights for the other functions on the motorcycle.

6) Looks & Style

Undoubtedly, this section will have different views from different users. The fuel tank section of the motorcycle is massive and carries all-new extensions that are much sharper than former FZ models. Headlight and taillight design is highly inspired by the MT series. Shades have been perfectly distributed on the body parts as few elements are finished in Matt Black while others include body specific colours like Cyan, Matte Blue and Gloss Black.  The all-LED headlight looks very futuristic, but on the downside, the illumination is poor in comparison to other bikes of this segment.

7) Value for Money

When considering a price tag of INR 1,33,680 in India, it cannot be said that it falls in the easy to buy segment for average buyers. Still, no other manufacturer offers a 249cc, fuel injected engine in this price range and that too with LED lights and such premium finish. The nearest quarter-litre machine is Honda CBR250R (INR 1.64 lakh) while the closest in terms of competition is KTM 250 Duke (INR 1.81 lakh).

Yamaha has also launched the new FZ V3 ABS for INR 95,000. Both the 150cc FZ options are available with single channel ABS. Yamaha FZ25 is powered by a 249cc, fuel injected engine, which is good for 20.69 BHP at 8,000 rpm and 20 NM at 6,000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox and the bike weighs just 148 kg. FZ25 is one of the most exciting products by Yamaha and it is also the most-affordable 250cc motorcycle you can buy in India. Here is the complete list of the pros and cons of the 250cc Yamaha FZ street fighter.

Pros of Yamaha FZ25

1) Most Affordable 250cc Bike in India

This typical Yamaha carries the tag of the most affordable motorcycle in the quarter-litre segment. FZ25 comes with a smaller price tag than other motorcycles around the engine segment. The only motorcycles that falls under its price tag is Apache RTR 200, and Pulsar NS200 and both of them carries a smaller engine. Pulsar RS200, KTM 200 Duke and even the CBR250R are highly priced in comparison. FZ25 is available for INR 1,19,335 (ex-showroom Delhi).

2) Excellent Mileage @ 43 kmpl

Yamaha FZ25 claims an excellent mileage of 43 kmpl. All others around the segment are not even into the 40+ league as maximum of them return close to 35 kmpl of mileage from their engines. This will keep the overall cost of running low and let the user enjoy ample power within the accessible range. The powerful engine is even delivering class-leading torque in its price segment.

3) Good Build Quality

FZ250 is a Yamaha by birth and this makes it entitled to the best quality components available across Indian motorcycle industry. It shares most of its components with the younger FZ version 2.0, promising a high-quality product that will perform better on everyday roads. The tried and tested formula even builds more trust within the existing and new customers for Yamaha Motor India.

4) Lightweight

Yamaha has built the bike in such a way that it weighs just 148 kg with a full fuel tank and all fluids in the engine. A motorcycle that carries 14 liters of petrol, 1.55 liters of engine oil and few other liquid components weighs quite low when compared to others around the performance segment. This makes it easy for riders to control the FZ250 in heavy traffic and even handling it around the bends at certain speeds.

5) All-Digital Instrument Console

The instrument console on the new FZ25 is really impressive, presenting new features like dual trip-meter, instantaneous and average mileage as well as a digital clock. The regular values like tachometer, speedometer and odometer are also placed in a nice manner, making values easily visible while driving.

6) Macho Design

The design of Yamaha FZ25 looks inspired from other members of the FZ family, carrying the Macho character for enhanced street bike appeal. The fuel tank is even chiseled for maximum attitude while extended cowls are totally new in design. The headlight flaunts fearless styling while lighter tail end adds the sporty bit into the overall design. It even looks mature with its independent tyre hugger.

7) Comfortable Seat Height

Yamaha FZ25 comes with a seat height of 795 mm, making it lower than most other street fighters in the price segment. This makes it easy for riders with average height to control the bike and drive with an easy hand. Along with that, The seating posture of the FZ25 is said to be typical street bike style, improving over the position that is available on the other FZ series bikes. Straight back can even reduce fatigue during extended rides on the FZ25.

8) High Torque

The 249 cc, fuel injected engine produces 20 NM of torque at just 6,000 rpm. The high torque promises excellent riding comfort and easy drive on all types of terrains. The engine is relaxed and pushing the rider for high revving is not in its nature. The mature riding style may not be suitable for those who love revving the bike hard but could impress audience which needs a bike with ample power and powerful presence.

9) Availability

Yamaha FZ25 is available pan India from the first day of its launch. Unlike TVS and Bajaj, Yamaha usually starts the deliveries across every small and large city of India at the same time. Not just that, Yamaha is expanding its dealership network in such a way that every Indian motorcycle lover can buy one around his town.

10) Attractive Shades

Yamaha FZ25 is offered in three attractive shades namely Warrior White, Ballistic Blue, and Knight Black. The dual tone shades offer Gloss Black as second shade on the Blue and Black while Grey/Matte Black can be seen on most of the panels of Warrior White. The shades are really attractive and customer can select any one out of all at the same price tag of INR 1,19,335. Yamaha misses out the typical race Blue from the FZ series.

11) Low Power But Very Quick!

The power output of Yamaha FZ25 is 20.69 BHP at 8000 rpm. The value seems low when compared to the output of Bajaj Pulsar NS200 (23.17 BHP), Pulsar RS200 (24.2 BHP) and KTM 200 Duke (24.6 BHP). All other produce the peak power at 9500-10000 rpm while the Yamaha FZ25 needs just 8000 rpm for the same. Yamaha FZ25 is one of the quickest bikes in India in this price range.

Cons of Yamaha FZ25

1) No ABS

Yamaha FZ25 lacks ABS as an option as most other bikes around the segment are offered with optional ABS. Yamaha will introduce the ABS model in the coming weeks but it could have simply been kept as standard at the time of launch.

2) Lack of 6th Gear

The motorcycle comes with a 5-speed gearbox, this could be a cost cutting factor as Yamaha FZ series never experienced the 6-speed gearbox from its time of launch. Although, the R15S has a 150cc engine and uses a 6-speed gearbox, claiming a price tag that is nearly equal to the 250cc FZ. Yamaha must have shared the 5-speed unit with the FZS V2 itself.

3) No Liquid Cooling

FZ25 carries an air+oil cooled engine that can also be a cost-cutting fact from Yamaha’s side, as the engine used in FZ250 has been carried over from the Fazer 250 sold in Brazil. Liquid cooling could have increased the overall cost of the bike and even was not that necessary for its naked design. The air cooling factor is great as Yamaha engines are good performers without the need for a complicated system for the same.

4) Poor LED Headlamp

Yamaha FZ25 comes with an aggressive-looking full LED headlight, improving the style quotient of the motorcycle in every way. But as per most of the owners, the LED headlight is a poor performer. So, in case you are planning to buy the FZ25, we would recommend you to replace the stock LED bulbs with high-intensity after-market options.
