New Kawasaki Ninja 300 vs Yamaha R3: Ninja 300 and YZF-R3 have a unique charm, leaving buyers stunned with high performance and responsive frame under the body. New Kawasaki Ninja 300 is priced at INR 2.98 lakh, making it the most impressive twin-cylinder motorcycle of all time. Yamaha R3 was earlier called the king of twin-cylinder lightweight racers but soon after the Ninja 300’s price drop, the title was lost. Now, the buyers are more confused than ever to choose one of these two sportbikes, both returning great value for the money spent on them. ABS now comes as standard on both bikes. At present, the Yamaha R3 is available for INR 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Yamaha R3 is still the more powerful option, using a 321cc, fuel injected and liquid cooled engine, producing 42hp at 10,750 rpm and 29.6Nm at 9,000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Ninja 300, on the other hand, comes with a 296cc engine, producing 39hp at 11,000 rpm and 27Nm at 10,000 rpm. The engine comes with a 6-speed, slipper clutch-assisted gearbox. The former is more powerful in terms of power to weight ratio as it weighs just 173kg while Ninja tips the scale at 179kg.

The fuel tank measures 14-litres for Yamaha R3 while Ninja 300 carries a bigger 17-litre fuel tank. Yamaha R3 and Ninja 300 offer 780mm and 785mm of accessible seat height respectively. Yamaha offers 298mm front disc brake while Ninja comes with 290mm front disc brake. The rear brakes remain the same on both bikes. Both the bikes are available with halogen headlights. In comparison to the price of Ninja 300, Yamaha YZF-R3 comes with a premium of INR 49,000 and it definitely affects the number of buyers for the motorcycle. In November 2018, Kawasaki sold 118 units of Ninja 300 in India while Yamaha was able to sell just 25 units in the same month.

Yamaha India has issued a recall for 1874 units of YZF-R3, including domestic and export market. The brand explains that these bikes carry a manufacturing date between July 2015 to May 2018. The brand is coordinating with dealers to cross-check records and contact all buyers affected by the recall in India. The problem is related to radiator hose and spring torsion defect.

The possible check and replacement of parts, if required, will be done free of cost. Yamaha has recalled the same motorcycle for the third time in India. As no owner has complained about both these parts, it was good on Yamaha’s side to clear the problem before anything goes wrong. The number of units include both the ABS and non-ABS version of the motorcycle.

Official Press Release

India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd. (IYM), in accordance to the requirements of its parent company Yamaha Motor Co. (YMC) Ltd., Japan is issuing the information on behalf of the latter which has determined that a defect related to “Radiator hose” & “Spring Torsion” may exist in few Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycles within certain production numbers range.

Although no such problems have been reported anywhere in India, however, as a responsible manufacturer, Yamaha has initiated a factory modification campaign where the affected motorcycles must get these parts replaced with the modified ones.

This voluntary recall is being undertaken to address an issue related to the leaking of coolant from the radiator and widening of torsion spring. The total vehicles recalled are 1874 units sold in domestic and export market, manufactured between July 2015 to May 2018. The affected motorcycles will be repaired free of cost at Yamaha authorized dealers and the owners will be contacted individually.

Yamaha is working closely with the dealer partners to ensure the repair experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.

Yamaha YZF-R1 is a name that brings the idea of sharp styling and niche superbike spirit inside a motorcycle lover. This case is totally different as this typical R1 has gone under the knife of French artist Ludovic Lazareth. This looks quite distinctive and can now be shifted into futuristic list of motorcycles around the world. He created this when he was free from customer demands and other responsibilities.

The motorcycle may feel ultra fresh but it underpins a 1999 Yamaha YZF-R1 that was modified ten years ago for Vin Diesel’s Babylon AD. The front end of the original R1 was given to some other project and this got itself an all new, custom built front end for more excitement. Yamaha R1 has a conventional front end while this machine uses swing-arm setup that allow it to be unique among all others.

Triumph Daytona 955’s wheels are stocked at both the front and rear section of the motorcycle. It now gets single sided swing-arm at both the ends. The shocks on the motorcycle has been custom built by TFX Suspension. The exhaust now looks more like an important part of the frame while its dead end can be seen studded with LED lights that act as the taillight for the modified Yamaha R1 Street.

The fuel tank is made out of aluminum while its outer cover is carved from carbon fiber. The same fiber can be seen on tail section, belly pan and most of the body panels. The brakes on offer on the Yamaha R1 are Brembo sourced while Lazareth has even used an Acewell instrument console, bar end mirrors and drag bars on the front end. The motorcycle claims a price tag of $53,000.
