Maruti Suzuki Swift RS will soon be a reality, carrying the powerful 1.0L engine from the Baleno RS variant. After the report of Suzuki scrapping the Sport variant of India, this comes as a great news for performance loving fans of the country. They may not get the similar sort of performance as Swift Sport but, the feel of driving a turbocharged petrol engine, that too with impressive numbers on the paper, is really different. The car will launch in India in March 2019. Also, the low sales volume of the performance section, led by Abarth Punto, has forced the company to consider alternates with affordable pricing and sporty styling.
Even the Volkswagen Polo GT was not a great hit, after presenting features like the DSG gearbox and ageless design lines. Tata Motors has launched the Tiago JTP and thus, Maruti has no other option to refresh the present generation model for sport loving fans. The placement of Baleno RS gives a direct hint of Maruti Swift RS placement, keeping a low profile and getting itself placed under the top-spec diesel variant. The move will not just attract more petrol buyers but, also help diesel buyers reconsider their preference of performance and mileage in the country.
Swift RS will use the 1.0L, three-cylinder Boosterjet engine, producing 101 Bhp and 150 Nm of torque. The engine will use the same 5-speed manual gearbox. Being lighter and quicker than ever, the new Swift in the turbocharged guise will prove fatal to other premium hatchback options under INR 8 lakh. The popular sporty hatchback is gaining traction, with Maruti Suzuki getting the first position in sales with Swift leading the charts. Maruti Swift RS was recently spotted inside a transport vehicle, flaunting sporty body kit and a different set of alloy wheels from the current top-spec car. Not just that, the RS variant comes with all-wheel disc brakes for better braking power.
