Yamaha MT-15 ABS has been launched in India for INR 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). For those who were expecting the premium streetfighter component feel from the new dark warrior, Yamaha skipped many things and introduced the same with single channel ABS as standard. The swingarm is the same as regular models in the lineup while price difference with the R15 V3 remains just INR 3000. Yamaha MT-15 ABS can be had in Dark Matt Blue and Metallic Black shade, ending the speculations of a Darknight variant with a completely matt-finished body. Most buyers will compare the same with Yamaha FZS priced at INR 97,000 (ex-showroom).
Still, the 155.1cc engine with variable valve actuation and liquid cooling stays good for 19.3 HP and 14.7 Nm of torque. The ECU is tuned to achieve a different riding style in comparison to the R15 V3. The styling part of the Yamaha MT-15 ABS is still at its peak as the front fascia with daytime running lights and projector headlight has resulted in a unique face for the model. The handlebar position is upright and comfortable while a negative LCD display adds the sporty character to this bike. The use of Deltabox frame results in improved agility and better than ever handling.
The front brake measures 282mm, equipped with ABS for effective stopping power while rear comes with 220mm disc without the same safety feature. The placement of this model went wrong for the brand as a gap of just INR 3000 is not at all justified with the mighty R15 V3. The number of omissions like rear brake ABS, swingarm and a full set of aerodynamic fairing could have resulted in a bigger drop for the buyers. It seems like many will stay happy with the third generation FZ or FZS as the price gap between both the 150cc model is INR 41,000.
