Yamaha XSR 300 in the Making; To Be Based on the YZF-R3

According to the reports, Yamaha is working on the XSR 155 sports heritage motorcycle, that will be launched shortly in Thailand. In addition to this, the brand will be introducing a new 300cc retro-inspired motorcycle in the coming months, which will eventually be christened as Yamaha XSR 300.

The reports also suggest that the upcoming XSR 300 will get the same powertrain as that of the YZF-R3 sportbike. The Yamaha XSR 300 became the talk of the town back in 2016 when a Japanese motorcycle magazine unveiled the rendering of the motorcycle. As per the rendered image of the XSR 300, the retro-styled motorcycle will feature a teardrop fuel tank design in addition to the round headlamp and tail light.

The Yamaha XSR 300 production variant is likely to feature the same fully-digital instrument console as seen in the XSR 700 and the XSR 900. The upcoming 300cc motorcycle will be based on the underpinnings of the Yamaha R3.

Powering the YZF-R3 is a 321cc, parallel-twin engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 42HP and a peak torque of 29.6 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.  The XSR 300, on the other hand, might get improved power output in addition to a better torque figure.

Unlike the rendered image you see here, the motorcycle will be equipped with 37mm upside-down telescopic front forks. The rear of the motorcycle will get a monoshock suspension. The Yamaha XSR 300 will feature disc brakes at either end while the brand will be offering dual-channel ABS as standard.

Yamaha will be offering the XSR 300 with a single-seat saddle while the neo-retro design of the motorcycle will make it look exclusive. The brand is planning to launch more products in the premium segment in the coming months to get a stronger foothold in the market. If and when launched in India, the Yamaha XSR 300 will be priced competitively in its segment.
