Honda CBR400R vs Kawasaki Ninja 400 (Detailed Comparison): After a recent price hike, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 is now available in India for INR 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch price of INR 4.69 lakh shocked everyone as most buyers were expecting it to stay around INR 4 lakh.
Still, those who have a first-sight crush on this 400cc-segment motorcycle can buy one by visiting the nearest Kawasaki dealership as no direct rival to this motorcycle exists in the Indian market.
KTM RC 390 is a single-cylinder sports bike while Benelli 302R is too underpowered and Yamaha R3 lacks that added displacement value. The closest possible rival to Ninja 400 is Honda CBR400R and undoubtedly, the new model looks extremely good.
As Honda retails the CBR250R and CBR650R in India, it won’t be hard for the brand to bridge the huge gap by bringing the CBR400R in the coming months. Expected to be priced at around INR 4.50 lakh (ex-showroom), the 400cc CBR is the closest possible rival for Ninja 400.
Not just by engine values, the popularity of the CBR series can also bring shocks to Kawasaki. Honda is clearly ahead in terms of dealership network and that could initially bring big sales number for the brand. Honda CBR400R is powered by a 399cc, twin-cylinder engine producing 46HP @ 9000 rpm and 38Nm @ 7500 rpm.
The Kawasaki Ninja 400 also comes with a 399cc, twin-cylinder engine producing 49HP @ 10,000 rpm and 38Nm @ 8000 rpm. Honda CBR400R weighs 192kgs while Ninja 400 is lightweight at just 173kgs.
As Ninja 400 shifted to the new-gen lightweight platform, it lost a lot of weight. Earlier, it was based on the same frame as that of the 2015 Ninja 650.
Honda CBR400R still comes based on the bigger bike platform and uses massive 120/160 section front/rear ZR-spec tyres. CBR400R supports long 1410mm of wheelbase for improved highway fun. The Kawasaki Ninja 400, on the other hand, takes the track by its side with the benefits.
