Every mind in India once thought that how Yamaha managed to launch a product worth IDR 35.3 million (INR 1.72 lakh approx) for this lower tag? The manufacturing cost alone could not cover this huge difference and thus, they made some changes into the component list to place the New Yamaha R15 V3 at the perfect point. For those who thought the one we get here is of low quality, the thought is totally wrong. They simply used part sharing for an effective cost.

1) Telescopic Forks in Place of USD Forks

Indian version of Yamaha R15 Version 3.0 is equipped with standard telescopic forks. This was the biggest cost cutting feature and Yamaha seems to be successful in their plan. They are using tried and testing, last generation’s suspension that keeps cost under check and without any downfall in performance.

2) MRF Tyres in place of IRC Tyres

MRF is an Indian brand and sourcing tyres from them further reduced the overall production cost. Not even 20% of the riders will take their bikes to a nearby track and thus, they will never feel the difference between MRF and IRC tyres in real life.

3) Increase in Torque for India

This was a great move as slight tuning of the engine helped them claim the existing torque value of R15 V2. This makes the new motorcycle 2.3 HP more powerful than the older version. Indonesian spec bike has 14.7 Nm of torque. The India-Spec R15 V3 generates 19.3 HP @ 10,000 rpm and 15 NM @ 8500 rpm. The 155.1 engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and comes with Variable Valves Actuation (VVA). R15 V3 is the 1st 150cc sport bike in India to get Assist & Slipper Clutch (ASC). The approx. top speed is 136 kmph and you can expect the bike to return mileage of around 40-45 kmpl.

4) Increased Ground Clearance

India spec R15 Version 3.0 comes with 170mm of ground clearance. This makes it good for 15mm of more clearance than Indonesian motorcycle with 155mm of GC. This must have been achieved through redesigning of lower panels as seat height stays exactly the same.

5) Different Shades for India

Indian market gets Thunder Grey and Racing Blue as exclusive shades while Indonesian R15 Version 3.0 comes in Matte Black, Matte Red and a different combination of Racing Blue.

6) Rear Disc Brake Size

Indian motorcycle shares the 220mm disc brake with all other top spec models while Indonesian model comes with 240mm rear disc brake. This helps them cut cost by choosing a component that is already being manufactured at large scale.

7) Different Rear Seat Foot Pegs

Yamaha is now using a black finished steel rear seat foot peg assembly for India while Indonesian model comes with aluminum foot peg holder. This was also done to cut costs and make it more effective for majority of buyers.

8) Front Fender Design

The front fender on India spec model is different in design to the Indonesian model. No one even knows why they did so bit it actually has no effect on overall performance.

9) Rear Tyre Hugger

Indian roads are known to get water clogged and thus, rear tyre hugger will help up reach the destination without getting mud wrapped for sure.

10) Increase in Weight with Mandatory Accessories

Saree guard and all other changes resulted in just 2 kg of weight gain for India spec bike. Almost half of the weight can be reduced in the first go and thus, this won’t worry riders too much.
