According to a recent report from NDTV, despite the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the launch of the 200cc Bajaj-Triumph motorcycle is on track and it would be launched in the year 2022, as promised. Here is an official statement by Shoeb Farooq, Business Head – Triumph Motorcycles India:
“A couple of months delay should not delay the timeline the partnership is looking at, which is sometime in 2022. Because, during the press conference during the contract launch also, I understood that everybody is pretty happy with the progress that the partnership is making on the product side. So they are already moving closely on product development, which is positive. A couple of months here and there due to the pandemic, will, of course, put some strain but I don’t see the timelines shifting too much.”
Elaborating further, Farooq said, “From the industry perspective, it is going to create very good options for the customers at very attractive, value-oriented price points that would become the entry price point. These bikes are going to be all-Triumph in their look and feel, and performance, ride-ability. And they will be sold through Triumph. For anyone, it will be an extension of the brand, and a lot of people will come into the brand and find it easy with those set of products, they will have a whole range to upgrade over a period of time.”
As we have reported earlier, the first Bajaj and Triumph product would be an all-new 200cc single-cylinder bike and it would be getting an ex-showroom price tag of under INR 2 lakhs. It has also been confirmed that all the motorcycles developed under the partnership will be sold under the Triumph brand name while Bajaj will only handle the production at its Chakan plant in Pune.
One can further expect the partnership to bring out the motorcycles ranging from 200cc displacement going all the way up to 750cc. There has been no official confirmation on what kind of motorcycle variants will be developed from the partnership though the chances of retro cruisers seem to be quite high.
