Light Rider is not just a regular commute, it is specially designed and carved out motorcycle which has been manufactured from a 3D printer. The credit is to be given to APWorks, which is a German subsidiary of Airbus.
The company is already known for many of its innovations including projects on flying cars being executed under works. The 3D printed bike has a very organic exoskeleton. The design based on 3D printing is both practical and innovative. The exoskeleton looks like an animal in itself. The bike has a hollow framework but has integrated cables and pipes which makes sure that the light rider is just 35 kilograms.
APWorks Light Rider: The World’s First 3D Printed Motorcycle
The CEO of AP works claims that “The complex and branched hollow structure couldn’t have been produced using conventional production technologies such as milling or welding,” and added “Advances in additive layer manufacturing have allowed us to realize the bionic design we envisioned for the motorcycle without having to make any major changes. With these technologies, the limitations facing conventional manufacturing disappear.”
The makers claim that the bike is 30% lighter than conventionally manufactured bikes. That adds to the convenience and fuel efficiency too, all thanks to 3D printing. 3D printing is the new revolutionary buzz word now as it leads to the addictive act of making objects, toys and even things of use from a machine known as a 3D printer. All you need to have is a computer with information about what you want to make.
The technology is relatively new. There are people who have build offices in Dubai from the same technology. 3D printing can be used in various industries such as in science labs at schools, for toymaker to manufacture toys or just for enthusiasts to make miniatures of things they love.
If you have a good budget then you can easily buy 3D printers from many brands and makers. For example many brands like UP, Zortrax, Prusa, Inferno, 3D Jet Tavo, Duplicator 4X etc. are available.
You can get any genuine make 3D printer for INR 75,000 to INR 2.5 lakhs with the right technology. To buy you own set of 3D printers you can get yourself informed at various portals such as:
