Bajaj Avenger Street 220 Discontinued in India: Since Bajaj Auto has recently revamped its portfolio in the light of the mandatory BS6 switch, the ‘Discover’ and ‘V’ monikers under its wing have been officially removed from the website. In addition to this, the brand has also discontinued the Bajaj Avenger 220 Street under the Avenger portfolio which only features the Avenger Street 160 and Cruise 220 with BS6-compliant engines as of now.
The Avenger 220 Street has not been updated with the BS6-compliant engine like other siblings in its segment. The brand has decided to simplify the equation with only a single cruise and street variant under its lineup while discontinuing the 220 Street due to low sales figures. The brand had halted the supply of the Avenger 220 Street to the dealerships in the last month while the only models that are expected to be available with the dealerships would be the unsold BS4 inventory.
The reason behind the lesser sales of the Avenger 220 Street is the availability of its 160cc variant that is far more affordable and features almost identical design language.
To jog your memory, powering Avenger 220 Street is a BS4-compliant 220cc single-cylinder engine that is capable of generating maximum power of 19.03 HP and a peak torque of 17.5 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
The powerful motorcycle under the brand features telescopic forks at the front while the rear has been mated to twin shock absorbers. The braking duties are handled by a disc brake at the front and a drum brake setup at the rear mated to single-channel ABS as standard. The motorcycle can register a top speed of around 120 kmph while the fuel efficiency stands at 35-40 kmpl.
The Bajaj Avenger series which now features the Avenger Street 160 and Cruise 220 are currently available in the markets with a BS6-compliant engine at a price tag of INR 94,893 and INR 1.17 lakh respectively.
