Kolkata Police recently added 12 Units of Harley Davidson Street 750s to their fleet. This was not the first instance as Gujarat Police even added six units of the same motorcycle in their lineup. The report clarifies that these Harley Davidson motorcycles would be a part of VIP escort squad and have replaced the decade old Royal Enfield motorcycles that were used for this purpose.
These have been customized with rear seat cowl, two solid saddlebags and sirens. On the other hand, Gujarat Police went on with large windscreen, chrome crash guard, pillion backrest and two panniers for their Street 750 fleet.
The addition of powerful motorcycles to the fleet may have no impact on the rate of disobedience of rules in India as they are not going to use the same for chasing or enforcement in any of the Indian cities.
Harley Davidson Street 750 is powered by a 749 cc, twin cylinder engine producing 59 Nm of torque at just 3750 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and claims a top speed of 177 kmph. The 233 kg motorcycle comes with a comfortable seat height of 720 mm. The base variant of Harley Davidson Street 750 costs INR 5.14 lakh while ABS is offered as standard.
