Hero MotoCorp is the first Indian brand to receive the ICAT BS6-certification for its Splendor iSmart, taking over the Honda’s plan of launching the first BS6-compliant 2-wheeler in India that they teased a few days back. The motorcycle that we’re considering here has been completely designed in Jaipur at the Center of Innovation and Technology (CIT).
Even the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has congratulated Hero to be the first mass-market brand to get BS6-certification in the motorcycle segment. Hero Motocorp has taken the leap here as most brands are planning to have one prototype that they can claim to be BS6-compliant and then enter the production to keep the promise intact.
Honda 2-Wheelers and Hero MotoCorp are tight-lipped about the performance of their BS6-Compliant 2-wheeler. Hero Motocorp is here to claim some extraordinary figures in terms of performance and fuel consumption. The brand is currently claiming around 105 kph for their iSmart Splendor model.
It is very obvious that most products will lose their best-selling status and above all, Hero bikes will enter the league where products like TVS Sport and Honda Dream are ready to take on the list with their obvious options with similar output and die-hard fan-following.
Dinesh Tyagi, Director – ICAT said: “We congratulate Hero MotoCorp for becoming the country’s first two-wheeler manufacturer to get the BS-VI certification. The Type Approval Certificate was issued to the Company’s Splendor iSmart motorcycle that has been developed and manufactured indigenously by Hero MotoCorp. Last year ICAT issued the country’s first approval for BS-VI norms for Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) segment also. The BS-VI emission standards are much more elaborate in their scope and integrate substantial changes to existing emission standards ensuring cleaner products to the consumer.”
