Hero MotoCorp Quits 150cc Segment; Xtreme Sports Discontinued

According to recent reports, Hero MotoCorp has discontinued the Xtreme Sports motorcycle in the Indian market which officially marks the exit of the brand from the 150cc motorcycle segment for now.

The brand has been witnessing an overall decline in the total sales of the motorcycle from the past few months with the last batch of only 1,237 units dispatched to the dealers in November 2019. Since the motorcycle has already been replaced by the Xtreme 200R and 200S in the Indian market, the brand is currently void of any motorcycle in the 150cc segment.

Both the Xtreme 200R and 200S have been able to witness a good response from the customers in terms of the overall sales. The Xtreme Sports was powered by a 149.2cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder 4-stroke engine that is capable of offering maximum power of 15.6 Bhp @ 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.5 Nm @ 7000 rpm. The 200cc Xtreme series will be further updated with a BS6-compliant engine before the new emission norms commence in the country from April 1, 2020.

In addition to discontinuing the Xtreme Sports, the Hero Karizma ZMR has also been removed from the brand’s official website. One of the most cherished products from the brand in the Indian motorcycle segment, the Karizma ZMR had a good run in the two-wheeler segment though the addition of more powerful and feature-rich motorcycles in its segment made it lose its charm.

Hero MotoCorp is currently focusing on expanding its reach in the scooter as well as the commuter segment in India while also planning to foray into the 300cc segment for competing against the likes of two-wheeler giants like Suzuki and Yamaha.
