Contrary to the reports of Bajaj to unveil the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401 at the ‘India Bike Week 2019’, the brand has shocked everyone by unveiling all-new 250cc Husqvarna motorcycles at the event. Christened as Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 250, the bikes are based on the KTM Duke 250 streetfighter and have been specifically developed for the Indian market.
In terms of styling, the 250cc Husqvarna motorcycles feature a completely different design language in comparison to the KTM motorcycles. The Vitpilen is the café-racer styled version, while the Svartpilen is more like a scrambler, just like the Vitpilen 401 and the Svartpilen 401.
The retro appeal of the motorcycles is further enhanced by a round headlamp, a muscular fuel tank design, an upswept exhaust, minimal bodywork, and round rearview mirrors. The bikes are equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels mated to knobby MRF tyres, which sets them apart from the international-spec Husqvarna 401 series motorcycles that feature spoke wheels as standard. The Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 weighs 153kgs while the Svartpilen 250 tips the scale at 154kgs.
Mechanically, the 250cc Husqvarna motorcycles are powered by a 248.8cc single-cylinder 4-stroke BS6-compliant engine that generates a maximum power of 31HP @ 9000 rpm and a maximum torque of 24Nm @ 7250 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission. The suspension duties of the motorcycles are handled by upside telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock absorber at the rear.
In terms of braking, the 250cc Husqvarna twins are equipped with a 320mm front disc brake and a 230mm rear disc brake. The motorcycles are equipped with a BOSCH 2-channel ABS unit as standard. The Husqvarna bikes will be sold via KTM ProBiking showrooms and the deliveries of the same will commence in February 2020. In terms of pricing, the 250cc Husqvarna motorcycles are expected to get an ex-showroom price range of around INR 2.10 lakh to INR 2.30 lakh.
