BS4 Kawasaki Ninja 300 Reportedly Discontinued in India

According to recent reports, Kawasaki India has officially discontinued its highest-selling motorcycle, the BS4 Kawasaki Ninja 300. Since it would be illogical to lose the potential buyers by discontinuing their best-selling product, one can certainly expect the brand to roll out the BS6 Kawasaki Ninja 300 before the new emission norms commence in the country from April 1, 2020.

The reports suggest that the brand halted the production of the BS4 Kawasaki Ninja 300 back in October 2019 while the dealerships are currently working towards clearing the existing stock of the motorcycle.

If the brand plans on launching the BS6 Kawasaki Ninja 300 in the coming months, one can expect it to be priced competitively to stay ahead in the premium 300cc sportbike segment. The current-gen Ninja 300 with a BS4-compliant engine is presently available in the market at a price tag of INR 2.98 lakh (ex-showroom), while the BS6-compliant variant of the motorcycle is expected to get a premium worth INR 8,000 to INR 12,000 over the BS4 Ninja 300 variant.

Since a lot of motorcycles under the brand’s portfolio have been updated with a full-LED headlight setup, one can expect the upcoming BS6 Kawasaki Ninja 300 to be equipped with the same. In addition to this, the brand is expected to update the motorcycle with all-new graphics as well as new colour schemes.

Updating the current-gen BS4-compliant engine according to BS6 emission norms will result in the motorcycle’s power and torque figures to be tweaked a bit. The present-gen 296cc parallel-twin cylinder engine on the BS4 Ninja 300 is good for a maximum power of 39HP @ 11,000 rpm and a peak torque of 27Nm @ 10,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Coming to the hardware specifications, the BS6 Kawasaki Ninja 300 is expected to feature the same conventional telescopic forks at the front while the rear tyre will be mated to a pre-load adjustable mono-shock. The braking duties will be handled by disc brakes at either side mated to dual-channel ABS as standard. If and when launched in India, the BS6 Ninja 300 is expected to get a price tag around INR 3.10 lakh to INR 3.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
