As per a recent report by IAB, Royal Enfield will be launching the single-channel ABS variant of the Thunderbird 350 in the coming days. Since the brand christened the single-channel ABS variant of its 350cc Classic motorcycle as Classic 350 S, one can expect the brand to launch the affordable version of the Thunderbird as the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 S.
Since there is no official confirmation on the launch of the motorcycle yet, the brand is likely to unveil it in the upcoming festive season, which is all set to progress from next week. The affordable Thunderbird series has been specifically developed to clear out the stocks of the BS4-compliant engines since the brand will be launching the BS6 variant of its most cherished Thunderbird series in the early months of 2020.
In addition to getting a single-channel ABS, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 S is expected to be launched with several new colour options. The brand is likely to equip the motorcycle with a drum brake at the rear end while at the same time will offer blackened-out components including the wheel walls, blinker housing as well as engine cover.
Since the RE Classic 350 S gets a price tag of INR 9000 lesser than the standard Classic 350 variant, one can expect the brand to offer the same price reduction for the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 S. The standard variant of the motorcycle is currently available at INR 1.57 lakh and the reduction of INR 9000 will make its affordable variant get a price tag of approximately INR 1.48 lakh in the Indian market.
Apart from the rear brake and ABS, the other mechanical bits of the motorcycle will remain identical to its standard variant. The 346cc single-cylinder air-cooled, twin-spark, carburetted engine will be capable of generating a maximum power figure of 19.8 HP at 5,250 rpm and a peak torque 28 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Once launched in the Indian market, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 S will compete with the likes of Jawa Classic 300 and the Forty-Two.
