2017 Suzuki GSX-R1000 & GSX-R1000R Launched in India

Suzuki has officially launched the 2017 GSX-R1000 and GSX-R1000R in India for INR 19 lakhs and INR 22 lakhs respectively. Prices mentioned here are ex-showroom Delhi. Both the bikes can now be booked in India from certain Suzuki dealers by paying a token amount of INR 2 lakh. Suzuki’s GSX-R1000 was always considered an under-powered option of the mighty liter class super bikes. 2017 GSX-R1000 is now much more powerful than before while race spec GSX-R1000R brings premium equipment over the former variant.

Satoshi Uchida, Managing Director, SMIPL, said, “After 3 decades and more than 1 million GSX-Rs sold worldwide, Suzuki is proud to launch the 6th Generation GSX-R1000 for its enthusiastic customers in India. This is the most advanced and most exciting Suzuki GSX-R in history and embodies Suzuki’s passion for riding and racing motorcycles. We are sure the discerning riders will appreciate the legacy and enjoy the technology and riding pleasure from this cutting edge motorcycle.”

The new 2017 GSX-R1000 concept was first seen at EICMA 2015 while the production version looks more or less the same as the concept model. It is powered by a new 999.8cc inline-4 engine with VVT (variable valve timing) technology, producing a mind blowing 202 PS @ 13,200 rpm and 117.6 Nm of torque @ 10,800 rpm. Not just that, it carries class leading technologies like 6-axis inertial measurement unit and 10-level traction control.

The wet weight of the bike tips the scale at 200 kg, bringing it back into the league of impressive power-weight ratio machines. The real world implementation of Suzuki GSX-R1000’s VVT is highly awaited as it is the first bike to carry the technology in its engine. The huge TFT acts as its instrument console and looks impressive at the first glance.

The GSX-R1000R is more race focused and comes with Showa balance free front forks and even balance free rear cushion shock. It uses lighter components and comes with launch control, quick-shifter and even cornering ABS. It comes with all the abilities to become the king of super bikes in the coming time.
