Suzuki GSX-250R Might Come to India by End 2017

If a recent report from Bike India is to be believed, Suzuki might launch the GSX-250R twin-cylinder sport bike in India by the end of this year. Suzuki recently launched GSX-250R in the United Kingdom with a price tag of £4299 (INR 3.49 lakh, approx.) for the base model and the MotoGP replica was launched for £4399 (INR 3.57 lakh, approx.).

As of now, Suzuki has not announced anything officially regarding the launch of GSX-250R in India. If launched, it would be competing with the likes of other 2-cylinder sport bikes like Kawasaki Ninja 300, Yamaha YZF-R3 (Updated model coming in June), and the Hyosung GT250R. These 3 bikes are priced above INR 3 lakhs (ex-showroom) and Suzuki GSX-250R is also expected to be priced around INR 3.25 lakhs (Ex-showroom) for base model.

Suzuki GSX-250R Might Come to India by End 2017

Suzuki GSX-250R looks amazing in its liter class rivaling design. However, the saddest part comes out to be its engine, shared with the Inazuma and producing figures which can put itself to shame on its design behalf. The 248cc, twin cylinder engine produces just 24.7 Bhp at 8,000 rpm and 23.3 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The values are too close to the single cylinder Honda CBR250R being sold in India currently.

It would be better if Suzuki uses the design of GSX-250R for a completely new India-specific model equipped with a single-cylinder 250cc engine with a price tag of around INR 1.60 lakhs. It would be making more sense and Suzuki might be able to sell the bike in good numbers in India. Launching the under-powered GSX-250R with a price tag above INR 3 lakhs won’t work as there are better options available in India.

Suzuki GSX-250R seems to be a relaxed rider while the segment competition namely Ninja 250/300 and Yamaha R25/R3 are not going to spare it for that simple reason with their highly powered engines. Visually, it uses the same 140 section tyre from Indian Gixxer while the instrument console even looks the same but feels different with Black background and added features like real time fuel consumption and oil change reminder.

Suzuki GSX-250R measures 2085 mm in length, 740 mm in width and 1110 mm in height. It uses a 6-speed gearbox and misses out on important technologies like slipper clutch or LED front headlights. The seat height stays good at 780 mm. The motorcycle uses a 290 mm, twin piston caliper disc brake at the front while rear is 240 mm disc. ABS has been offered as optional on the motorcycle. Weighing 178 kg, it becomes even slower as the competition measures around 160-170 kg. It carries a 15 liter fuel tank.

Key Specifications:

  • Engine – 248cc, 2-Cylinder
  • Max. Power – 24.7 Bhp @ 8000 rpm
  • Max. Torque – 23.3 Nm @ 6500 rpm
  • Gearbox – 6-Speed
  • ABS – Optional
  • Kerb Weight – 178 kg
  • Seat Height – 790 mm
  • Expected Price – Around INR 3.25-3.50 lakhs
