Top 5 Most-Awaited 250cc 1-cylinder Sport Bikes in India

Indian automobile industry is growing at a fast pace and riders are demanding more for the money they spend on motorcycles. In order to bring more into the market, many manufactures have broken those odd limits and launched motorcycles that are not even close to their other existing offerings in the lineup.

BMW was known for high end premium bikes and now they have G310R on their list while Mahindra makes commuter bikes but went into the Mojo’s exclusive segment. Adopting new standards for the benefit of people, many brands have planned a blockbuster entry into the famous quarter liter sport bike segment of India.

Most of them may be soon within us in the upcoming year while many would just play with the feelings of Indian motorcycle fans. The bikes discussed here have been selected on the basis of engine displacement and single cylinder layout only. Here are the Top 5 Most-Awaited 250cc 1-cylinder Sport Bikes in India:

Top 5 Most-Awaited 250cc 1-cylinder Sport Bikes in India

# New Honda CBR250R

Honda CBR250R internationally comes with a twin headlight design that looks really amazing and up to date when compared to its present model we have in India, and that too is temporarily unavailable due to BS4 emission norms. The engine on the new CBR250R is a 249 cc, 1-cylinder motor producing 28.6 BHP at 9000 rpm and 23 Nm at 7500 rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The motorcycle weigh 164 kg and carries a 13 liter fuel tank.

The current Indian CBR250R carries a VFR inspired single headlight design while the new CBR250R uses a typical CBR series design with twin headlights and sport side profile. If Honda launches the same in 2017, it could be the best product in the quarter liter range, offering dual channel ABS for safe riding. But Honda has been delaying the launch of any new CBR series sport bike in India from quite sometime now, it is still not clear when will we get the new CBR250R and CBR150R in India.

# Hero HX250R

Hero HX250R was designed and developed in collaboration with EBR. It surely tags itself as the most powerful 250 cc motorcycle, producing 31 BHP at 9000 rpm and 23 Nm at 7000 rpm. The 6-speed gearbox and 139 kg of lightweight design makes the motorcycle good for 165 kmph of top speed. It even carries 12.90 liters of fuel tank and may get a price tag of INR 1.50 lakh (approx).

Hero’s flagship racer would be the most powerful and even the most expensive motorcycle in their lineup after the launch. It will rival the Honda CBR250R, KTM RC200 and Mahindra Mojo around its segment. Hero’s pricing can help them get a fair chunk from the segment in a short period of time. As of now, Hero has not announced any confirmed time frame for the launch of HX250R in India, but it is expected to be launched within next 5-6 months.

# Kawasaki Ninja 250 SL

Kawasaki Ninja is every biker’s dream machine and buying the same would get no better if they launch the single cylinder quarter liter Ninja 250 SL in the country. The most affordable Ninja currently is the twin cylinder Ninja 300 while once, they even sold the same bike with a 250 cc, twin cylinder engine. The difference in the costs of single and twin cylinder engines makes 250 SL an ideal option for country like India.

It comes with a 249 cc engine producing 27.62 BHP and 22.6 Nm of torque. Tipping the scale at just 151 kg, it can put many twin cylinder quarter liter machines to shame with its powerful engine. Kawasaki can price it around INR 2 lakh or even lesser by localizing it to larger extent. Also, the recent report of Kawasaki splitting its dealership ventures with KTM may help them bring products with even more competition to the Orange brand.

# Hyosung GD250R
Hyosung GD250R is a futuristic single cylinder quarter liter sport bike from the Korean bike maker. It has a different attitude when compared to all other bikes on the list, making it special with its oddly designed but still attractive headlights and front pointing design.

It will be a good option for those who believe in maintaining exclusivity, without loosing points on the performance department. The 249 cc engine is good for 27.6 BHP and 24.17 Nm of torque. The motorcycle weighs 155 kg and claims a top speed of 140 kmph. The high seat height and typical sportbike riding position can limit its appeal to certain type of riders in India.

# KTM RC 250

While fans are happy revving their KTM RC390’s in India, some of them are still living with the hopes of RC250 entering the Indian market. AS RC200 lacks ABS and those extra sticky metzeler tyres, the RC250 is a perfect combination of performance and equipment. It uses a slightly bigger 248.8 cc engine producing 30.87 BHP and 24 Nm of torque. The bump of just 50 cc brings mouth watering performance and other equipment on the India’s favorite sportbike series.

KTM RC250 is again good when compared with RC390 in terms of fuel efficiency and would be surely placed at a considerable margin from the flagship Indian KTM racer. KTM may launch it alongside the new 2017 KTM 250 Duke around April next year while some reports even say that the lineup will be announced in January 2017.
