Yamaha fans would love to know that their favorite twin-cylinder lightweight motorcycle has entered the first step of evolution. Yamaha R3/R25 was recently spied testing with an updated list of equipment in these spy shots, clearly hinting at a sharper version for the India spec model in the coming months. The model is presently under testing, featuring golden USD front forks, revised front fairing with no sign of the halogen daytime running light, compact headlamps with LED illumination and bigger air intake in the middle of these lights. It is not yet confirmed if the intake will be functional or a faux one.
Apart from these visible changes, Yamaha will add more options to prove the worth of this race machine like radially mounted brake calipers, all-digital instrument console, and switchable ABS unit. Adding a better air intake can help them push more power into the motorcycle and rival the recently launched Kawasaki Ninja 400 instead of the lower placed Ninja 300. Yamaha will use the same engine displacement for the 250cc South Asian market specific model as most markets have a segment differentiation based on the cubic capacity of the engine. The motor is good for 36 hp and 22.6 Nm in present tune.
On the other hand, the India specific Yamaha R3 is available in certain markets like the US and UK, reducing chances of displacement increase for a single market. Also, the R3 moniker would be hard to justify with a 400cc engine under the fairing. Yamaha R3 is powered by a 321cc, twin-cylinder engine, producing 42 hp at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The values are still better than most options around the segment, justified through the lightweight body of R3, offering impressive power to weight ratio. Yamaha will try bringing a more aggressive seating position to justify the R-Series DNA of 2019 R3.
