According to the latest buzz, the 2020 Yamaha R3 is expected to be launched in India in the coming months. The brand will be offering the motorcycle in two new colour variants namely: ‘Icon Blue’ and ‘Midnight Black’. The new colours have replaced the ‘Yamaha Blue’ and ‘Power Black’ colour variants of the motorcycle, which were unveiled last year for the international markets. Apart from the two new colour schemes, the 2020 edition of the motorcycle gets similar style dynamics and mechanical bits.
Coming to the key changes, the ‘Icon Blue’ colour scheme of the 2020 Yamaha R3 now features distinguished design graphics on its body panels. The brand has offered a contrasting white look to the mudguard at the front in addition to offering the same white paint scheme to the rear under-seat panel.
The golden USD forks seen on the 2019 variant have now been offered an all-black look. Similarly, the ‘Midnight Black’ variant of the motorcycle gets an updated all-black colour scheme. The USD forks at the front have been offered the black treatment while the motorcycle features blackened-out Yamaha and R3 decals on the fairing and the front fender.
Earlier, the new model of the Yamaha R3 was expected to be launched in India by mid-2019 but considering that the new BS6 emission norms will be implemented in India shortly, the brand will be launching the 2020 Yamaha R3 with a BS6-compliant engine by the end of this year. Once launched in India, the motorcycle is expected to get an ex-showroom price tag of INR 3.70 lakh and will compete in the market with the likes of Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM RC 390, and the Benelli 302R.
The 2020 model of the Yamaha R3 is powered by the same 321cc, twin-cylinder engine, producing 42HP at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It weighs 169 kg with 14-litres of fuel in the tank and all fluids included. The brakes remain similar to the one seen on the current-gen Indian version, carrying a 2-channel ABS unit as standard.
