The much-awaited BS6 Yamaha R15 V3 has been officially launched in the Indian market. Earlier, the sportbike was expected to launch in January 2020. The BS6-compliant model of the motorcycle remains unchanged in terms of styling except for some minor changes in the colour combinations.
The standard variant of the bike has been priced at INR 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom), which is approximately INR 4,000 more than the BS4 model. Yamaha has also launched the Darknight Edition of the BS6 R15 V3 with a price tag of INR 1.47 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand has equipped the 2020 model of the R15 V3 with a side-stand engine cut-off switch, dual horn, and a radial tyre at the rear.
Mechanically, the 2020 model of the Yamaha R15 V3 is powered by a BS6-compliant 155cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that produces 18.6HP of maximum power at 10,000 rpm along with 14.1Nm of peak torque at 8,500 rpm.
There is a slight drop in the power and torque figures of the bike as the BS4 model was able to produce 19.3HP of power with 14.7Nm of torque. The engine of the bike continues to come mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The BS6 Yamaha R15 V3 is available in 3 colours namely Thunder Grey, Racing Blue, and Darknight (Matte Black). The bookings of the bike are now open while the deliveries are expected to commence soon.
At the launch event, the chairman of Yamaha Motor India, Mr Motofumi Shitara commented – “Our commitment towards customers in India is underlined in exciting products and experiences of The Call of the Blue. Being a cult brand that grows refinement and rage, Yamaha is thankful to the customers in India who have cultivated the passion of R15 with their high taste of sensation and performance.”
