Mechanically, the BS6-compliant Yamaha MT-15 is powered by the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that is now capable to generate a maximum power of 18.5HP @ 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 13.9Nm @ 8,500 rpm. In comparison, the BS4 variant of the MT-15 was good for 19.3HP of maximum power along with an utmost torque of 14.7Nm. The engine remains mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

In comparison to the BS4 model, the BS6 version of the Yamaha MT-15 has been further equipped with a side-stand engine cut-off switch which prevents the motorcycle to start whenever the side stand is down. In addition to this, the tail light position has also been revised and has been raised a little bit when compared to the last-gen model. The brand has also equipped the BS6 Yamaha MT-15 with a wide radial tyre at the rear. Apart from these changes, the motorcycle remains cosmetically unaltered.
