As reported earlier by us, Yamaha is planning to launch new premium bikes and scooters in India to boost up the sales. In order to fulfil its target of selling 2.5-3 million units in India by 2025, the brand will now be focusing more on premium products.
Considering their bland performance in the market in the 100cc-125cc segment in the previous years, Yamaha is all set to revamp their portfolio in the premium segment. The brand plans on increasing their sales by around 50% as compared to the last year with the introduction of all-new premium bikes and scooters.
A major chunk of Yamaha enthusiasts plan for going after the R15, FZS, MT-15, R3, and the FZ25, thus leading to the decrease in sales for the lower displacement motorcycles. The brand will be increasing the production of its premium portfolio in Indian as well as international markets.
According to the reports, Yamaha is likely to introduce some of its new premium products in India at the upcoming Auto Expo in February 2020. It is being rumoured that the brand is likely to launch the N-MAX and Aerox scooters, powered by R15-inspired 155cc liquid-cooled engine.
Both the premium scooters will compete in the market with the likes of Suzuki Burgman, Piaggio Vespa and Aprilia scooters in India though, the brand might price them on the higher side as compared to the competitors. The N-MAX and Aerox are expected to get an ex-showroom price tag of around INR 1 lakh in India.
New premium bikes to be launched by the brand will most probably be the Yamaha MT-03 and an affordable all-new 300cc single-cylinder sports bike, specifically designed for performance-centric enthusiasts. The price tag for the MT-03 is expected to be at INR 3.25 lakh (ex-showroom) while one can expect the new 300cc motorcycle to be priced around INR 2.50 lakh, making it INR 1 lakh cheaper in comparison to the R3, which is currently available in India for INR 3.50 lakh.
