Yamaha MT-03, XSR155 and R3 India Launch – Here’s What We Know

MT-03, XSR155 and the new model of R3 are the most-anticipated Yamaha motorcycles in India. All of these products were rumoured to launch in the Indian markets in 2022, but it didn’t happen, and as per the latest details available, Yamaha has no plans to launch these bikes in India anytime soon.

If we talk about the R15-based XSR155, with the recent launch of the FZ-X 150, Yamaha has made it clear that they won’t be launching the XSR155 in India. According to the brand, FZ-X is a more suitable product for our country and they are already selling the MT-15 in the premium 150cc segment in India.

Yamaha XSR155

To jog your memory, Yamaha XSR155 is the smallest bike under the “Sports Heritage” portfolio offered by the brand. It features a classic retro design with modern components as the motorcycle features a round LED headlight setup and a fully digital instrument console that offers apt riding statistics. Powering the motorcycle is a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine capable of developing a maximum power of 18.6HP and a peak torque of 14.1Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

Coming to the MT-03 and R3, Yamaha Motor India made it clear recently that they won’t be launching any new motorcycles in the 250cc+ segment anytime soon. For the moment, it appears that the company’s objectives in India will be focused on its existing motorcycle platforms and the popular 125cc scooter platform.

Yamaha MT-03

The new model of Yamaha MT-03 features a revised design inspired by its elder sibling MT-09. The motorcycle features a triple LED headlight design mated to LED DRLs. The next-gen model of the MT-03 features main tank shrouds while the fuel tank design has also been revised. Powering the motorcycle is the YZF-R3-inspired 321cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine that is capable to generate a maximum power of 42HP and a peak torque of 28.8Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Yamaha R3

Coming to the updated variant of the YZF-R3 sports bike, the brand has equipped the motorcycle with improved styling as well as a new suspension system. The motorcycle has been built on a revised chassis frame and it is powered by the same 321cc, liquid-cooled engine that is good for 42HP of maximum power and an utmost torque of 28.8Nm. The engine remains mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
