Yamaha MT-15 Tracer in the Making; India Launch Possible

According to a recent report by TMC, Yamaha is gearing up to launch the MT-15 Tracer in the coming months. The brand has been focusing on introducing the tracer version of the naked MT-15 since last year. The upcoming motorcycle was specifically planned after Honda introduced the CB125X concept at the EICMA in November 2018.

Yamaha will be introducing the MT-15 Tracer as an on-road bike that will be equipped with adventure touring capabilities. The motorcycle will feature a tall windscreen at the front in addition to a redesigned taller handlebar setup that will improve the aerodynamics and will offer a rather comfortable touring experience.

The brand is likely to equip the motorcycle with upside-down telescopic front forks, so as to tackle every terrain with ease. But the India-spec model of Yamaha MT-15 Tracer won’t be featuring USD forks like the YZF-R15 V3 and MT-15 available in the Indian market.

Expected to be based on the design language of Yamaha MT-09 Tracer, the upcoming MT-15 Tracer will feature the similar tank extensions and tank shrouds when compared to the former. The motorcycle will feature disc brakes on either end while Yamaha will be offering the international-spec model with a dual-channel ABS unit as standard.

The upcoming entry-level adventure tourer will share the same engine specifications as that of its naked version. Powering the Yamaha MT-15 Tracer will be the same 155cc liquid-cooled, SOHC engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 19.3HP and an utmost torque of 14.7 Nm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed transmission with a slipper clutch. The tracer variant will be sharing various components with the standard MT-15 variant including the frame, swingarm, tyres, and the all-digital instrument panel.

The Yamaha MT-15 Tracer will be initially launched in the international markets though, the brand is likely to introduce the same in the Indian market as well considering the success of MT-15 naked variant. In addition to this, Yamaha is also working on introducing the XSR155 in the international markets.
