As per the latest details available via TMC Blog, the upcoming Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 3.0 would be powered by an all-new 155cc engine. The new engine is expected to generate maximum power of 18-20 HP and maximum torque of 16-18 NM. It would be mated to a 6-speed gearbox. As of now, the most powerful single cylinder 150cc sport bike is the recently unveiled Suzuki GSX-R150, which develops maximum power of 19.17 HP @ 11,000 rpm.

Let’s see if Yamaha manages to extract around 20 HP from the new 155cc engine and beats the GSX-R150 in terms of specifications. Yamaha Motor Research and Development India’s MD, Yasuo Ishihara recently confirmed officially that the much loved R15 will soon enter its third generation. In a talk with Financial Express, he confirmed Yamaha R15 V3.0 to be a better and more enjoyable product like the recently launched Yamaha YZF-R3. As far as the design is concerned, the new R15 would be inspired from the M-Slaz 150 and might be sharing some design cues from it.

As we have heard that Yamaha listens to the feedback of the fans and work for the best to achieve these, they should add certain upmarket elements like LED headlights and dual channel ABS to make it stand apart from the crowd. USD forks would even make it the best one of its segment. Some elements like its rear tyre hugger and instrument console are actually superb and adding more stuff into the semi digital console would make it more worthy than ever.

A full LCD unit would not even be a bad option but keeping it colored would be the important need in the increasing competition. If even some of the features out of all these are added, the cost would go up significantly. The current generation weighs 136 kg while the new one can even lose weight if a new lightweight engine comes into the bike.

According to Mr Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research and Development India Pvt Ltd: “The R15 will become better in its next iteration, however, no details can be shared as to what would exactly the specifications be like, but we can assure that it will be a step-up from the current generation in all aspects of performance and safety. We also want to extract as much as possible from a motorcycle to give maximum value-for-money for our products.”
