Yamaha R3 Discontinued in India: As expected, Yamaha has discontinued the R3 in India and the brand has also removed the sportbike from its official website. Since the motorcycle was not updated to meet the BS6 emission norms ahead of the deadline (April 1, 2020), the brand had no other option except for stop selling it in the country.
The brand had replaced the old Yamaha R3 in 2018 in the international markets, though India is yet to receive the updated version of the sports bike. As per the latest buzz, Yamaha has no immediate plans to launch the 2020 model of the YZF-R3 in the Indian market. Some reports suggest that the 2020 model of the bike will be officially launched in India after 3-4 months with a BS6-compliant engine.
Powering the BS4 Yamaha YZF-R3 is a 321cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 42HP @ 10,750 rpm and a peak torque of 29.6Nm @ 9,000 rpm. The mid-cycle update offered to the YZF-R3 back in 2018 rewarded it with a new design language based on the Yamaha YZR-M1 MotoGP sports bike.
The brand has offered the 2020 model of the bike with a fully-digital instrument panel while the split LED headlights add to the sportier appeal further. The motorcycle in the international markets features KYB inverted front forks while the rear has been equipped with a preload-adjustable monoshock unit from KYB. One can expect more news on the BS6-compliant variant of the motorcycle to follow soon.
