Yamaha India recently updated its official website and surprisingly, FZ16 and YZF-R3 went missing from the motorcycle section. This change was seen after the implementation of BS4 emission norms across the country. Yamaha FZ16 was carrying an older 153 cc engine and Yamaha might have discontinued the same from their official lineup. That engine was first being sold in all the 150 cc models except R15 in the lineup. Then came the 149 cc fuel injected unit that changed the face of the FZ lineup. The story for Yamaha R3 seems totally different.
Yamaha FZ16 is expected to be discontinued in India
Yamaha R3 was updated with new shades internationally and those were expected to launch in India as well in the coming days. Yamaha seems planning for a new section under its motorcycle tab, most probably adding a CKD tab for differentiating YZF-R3 from the others. It is one of the most powerful options available under INR 4 lakh (on-road) and rivals Kawasaki Ninja 300 in India. Yamaha can’t discontinue it in India and they must have plans for an upgrade soon. R3 uses a 321 cc, twin cylinder engine producing 41.4 BHP and 29.6 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox and claims 188 kmph.
Yamaha might update the R3 in India soon with new shades & graphics
The website may soon bring the new shades for Yamaha R15 as all other products have been updated in the last few days. FZ25 was recently launched and needed no update while FZ series (including Fazer) were wrapped in better shades on the 2017 variant. They were even launched without the familiar tyre hugger. Yamaha then updated the SZ-RR with new shades and BS4 engine while smaller Saluto motorcycles also received the mandatory updates. The disc brake version of 125 cc Saluto even got itself two attractive shades (Grey and Cyan).
