2018 Yamaha YZF-R3 ABS has been launched in India for INR 3.48 lakh (ex-showroom). The sudden launch was totally unexpected as Yamaha stayed tight lipped about this twin cylinder product on both media days @ Auto Expo 2018.
This marks an important step for R series in India as now just Yamaha R6 is left to complete their superbike lineup. Yamaha R3 stays unchanged from every possible angle as updates just include BS4 compliant engine and dual channel ABS. R3 now also comes with two new shades.
Yamaha R3 had started making a position out of all others with its BS3 variant at INR 3.26 lakh but soon, the implementation of strict norms forced the brand to discontinue their rising star.
It is powered by a 321cc, twin cylinder engine producing 41.1 Bhp at 10,750 rpm and 29.6 Nm at 9,000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It comes with a 298mm front and 220mm rear disc brake with ABS on both ends. Tyres on use are now sourced from Metzeler.
R3 comes with the same semi digital instrument console while all other R series models are now equipped with fully digital consoles. It uses a 14 liter fuel tank and rivals none other than Kawasaki Ninja 300, Benelli 302R ABS and KTM RC390 in India.
When seen in terms of refinement and character, R3 comes as the best option between all these bikes. Yamaha offers the reliable 41mm Kayaba front forks and rear monoshock suspension with their new 2018 R3 ABS.
