List of Automatic Small Cars in India: When you are stuck in traffic, shifting gears time and again can be a real pain. For the premium cars and brands out there, there had been no issue since almost all of them are equipped with automatic transmissions.
However, with the onset of transmission systems like the AMT and the AGS, small cars have been able to take advantage of the same fact as well. A lot of brands have started offering automatic transmissions, providing ease to the people who do not want to spend a lot of money. Here is the complete list of automatic small cars you can buy in India:
One of the brands who pioneered the hatchback segment in India, Maruti Suzuki was among the first brands to bring the automatic gearbox to their lineup of hatchbacks. The company uses an AMT gearbox, which stands for Automated Manual Transmission. Although the AMT does not provide the riding smoothness as a DSG, it is significantly cheaper.
Normal automatic gearboxes are offered with a price difference of about INR 1 lakh, while the AMT is offered with a price difference of INR 30,000 between the automatic model and its manual counterpart. Baleno uses a CVT gearbox, which is more technologically advanced than the AMT. Maruti Suzuki offers the following automatic hatchbacks in their lineup:
Tata Motors has been one of the oldest operating companies in India. The company came up with the automatic gearbox when they launched the new generation of their cars which includes the likes of the Tiago and the Tigor. Tata employs the use of the AGS transmission system, which is the same as the AMT, and it stands for Automated Gear Shift. Essentially, it removes the hassle of pressing the clutch pedal, as the transmission box does that for you. Tata manufactures the cheapest car with the automatic gearbox.
One of the most reliable brands on the list, Hyundai has only two offerings in the hatchback segment of the automatic cars in India under INR 10 lakh. The lower priced Grand i10 employs the use of the Torque Converter automatic transmission and provides higher torques at lower rpms, while the Elite i20 uses the CVT, Constantly Variable Transmission, which keeps the engine running at its peak efficiency.
Honda is one of the most reliable brands on the list, with its use of high-quality materials and smooth drive across all the cars in its lineup. Honda cars are a pleasure to drive, and the comfort, that one experiences in them, is like nothing found in any of the other cars on the list. The Brio uses the Torque Converter Automatic transmission, while the Jazz uses the more fuel-efficient CVT.
The other hatchbacks in this price segment which are offered to the Indian market are the Ford Figo, the Renault Kwid, and the Nissan Micra. Ford offers the Figo with a 6-speed Dual Clutch Transmission, which uses a torque converter, and gives high torques at lower revs. Renault’s Kwid uses a 5-speed AMT to shift the gears, while the Nissan Micra uses a CVT.
