BMW has finally unveiled the new generation 5-series internationally after a long series of teasing and leaks. The car now stands higher with more safety and efficiency while the lower overall weight guarantees its future success among rivals. Better engineering and materials have resulted in reduction of 100 kgs from the car’s weight.
The car now measures 4936 mm in length, 1868 mm in width and 1479 mm in height. The wheelbase in 2975 mm long. The most important change in the lineup is the introduction of new engines, providing the customers with a provision to choose between various options, according to their actual requirement. The engines have been partly shared with the 7-series and 3-series while power values of some of them are definitely better than before.
The 5-series range starts with 520d, producing 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque. It is offered with 6-speed manual as well 8-speed Steptronic transmission. This is the only varaint with a manual gearbox while the engine is good for 0-100 kmph of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 237 kmph.
The second variant is 530i (252 PS, 350 Nm) claiming under 6-second 0-100 kmph. It uses a 2.0 L petrol motor and brings a reasonable fuel efficient. The bigger 3.0 L turbo engine on the 540i is good for 340 PS and 450 Nm of torque, claiming a 0-100 kmph sprint time of just 4.8 seconds.
BMW has even added the 3.0 L, turbo diesel engine from the 730d, providing 265 PS and 620 Nm of torque to the 5-series. Last option on the car is a hybrid 530e iPerformance engine returning 2.0 L/ 100 km of fuel efficiency and even all electric range of 45 kilometers. The advanced tech on the car now includes lane assist upto 210 kmph and even the gesture control from the 7-series. It even offers a parking assistant that detect empty spaces and parks automatically.
2017 BMW 5-Series Officially Unveiled
The car comes with adaptive LED lights as an optional feature while the range topping M550i will arrive after all the variants are launched. It will be powered by a 4.4 L, V8 engine producing 462 HP and 650 Nm of torque. The best part would be its 0-100 kmph sprint time of 4.0 seconds. All-New 2017 BMW 5-Series is expected to go on-sale in India by mid 2017, expect a slight increase in the prices for the new line-up.
