In collaboration with Ford, Jiangling Motors has released the new Equator Sport in the Chinese market. This car carries a great deal of its design language, particularly on the front end, especially when it comes to the LED headlight shape, which has a kind of new hooked design that is going to be more and more prevalent among foreign models.
On the grille, we have a very traditional looking Ford design. The chunky front bumper, along with a silver-coloured skid plate, provides it with a rugged look. The Equator Sport represents an advancement over the design of the regular Equator. The rear design of the Equator Sport is quite different from that of the standard Equator in the fact that it doesn’t have a one-piece rear light but rather two separate, more traditional looking tail lamps.
The bloated nature of the rear taillights and the fact that they kind of stick out a little bit give it more of a 3D shape, and it is visually more interesting to look at. On the inside, there is a piano black interior with the same basic layout as that of the Equator, particularly when it comes to the dual screens with an amazing user interface that is a bit better in the Chinese market than in the US.
The Equator Sport is a 5-seater compact SUV with smaller dimensions. The car has been launched at the ongoing Guangzhou Auto Show for the first time. Under the hood, there is a brand new 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo petrol engine generating 170 hp of max power and 260 Nm of max torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and is speculated to be an all-wheel-drive (AWD) SUV where power goes to all four wheels in equal ratios. The claimed maximum speed of the new Ford Equator Sport is 180 kmph.
