It has been more than one and a half year since the rumours for Hyundai’s sub-4-meter SUV began and now, Hyundai has officially confirmed the name Venue for the car. This SUV is supposed to be based on the 2016 Carlino concept, and the confirmation on the launch of the compact SUV in May 2019 has finally arrived. The can will be officially unveiled on April 17 and will be placed below the Creta in Hyundai’s lineup of cars. The Hyundai Venue SUV will get its power from Hyundai’s 1.0-liter 3-cylinder T-GDi petrol engine with a direct injection of fuel in the international markets.
This engine has been previously seen on the UK-spec i20 and is available in two states of tune. The power delivered by this engine ranges between 100 PS and 120 PS, and the peak torque delivered by the engine stands at 172 Nm. The engine developing 100 PS power is mated to a 5-speed manual, while the one with 120 PS power delivery is mated to a 6-speed manual. The company may offer a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission on the Venue as well. The official launch of the new Hyundai Venue will take place in mid-May 2019 in India.
If Hyundai decides to go with the engine delivering 120 PS of power in India, the compact SUV will become a direct rival to the Ford EcoSport with the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. For the Indian markets, the company could also sway towards the 1.2-liter petrol engine that powers the current generation of the Elite i20, which will bring the starting price of the Hyundai Venue further down. Diesel motors could also be an option for the car, with the power delivery of 90 PS and a peak torque of 220 Nm developed through a 1.4-liter engine, also seen on the Elite i20.
The feature list is expected to be long as it is on the other vehicles offered by Hyundai. A touchscreen infotainment system with the latest connectivity options is expected along with projector headlamps with daytime running lamps, climate control, and steering-mounted controls. The price of the Hyundai Venue is expected to be between INR 8 lakh and INR 11 lakh and the competition will be provided to the other sub-4 meter compact SUVs like the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and the Mahindra XUV300.
