Update 2 | June 14, 2017 | Jeep Compass Bookings Open in India @ INR 50,000
The much awaited moment for Jeep fans is finally here. The off-road specialist has started accepting bookings for the new Jeep Compass for a token amount of INR 50,000. The first car to be built in India, Jeep Compass measures 4398 mm in length and carries a wheelbase of 2636 mm.
The car rides on 18 inch wheels and uses a powerful 1999 cc Multijet II engine producing 170 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. It will rival Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan in the Indian market. Jeep India will retail the car through a joint dealership network with Fiat and Abarth.
Update 1 | June 01, 2017 | Made-In-India Jeep Compass rolls out of Fiat’s Ranjangaon facility
The Jeep Compass SUV has now finally got a “Made In India” tag. The high class premium SUV has been rolled out from the Ranjangaon plant of Fiat in Maharashtra. The location has been selected as the main plant for all the right hand drive Compass SUVs to be manufactured for the global markets. The plant will also roll out the model for exclusive markets such as Japan and UK as well.
This project has seen a whooping investment of $280 million by Fiat and Jeep. This is a good news especially for the Indian economy as such invests adds up to the nation’s GDP and leads to employment.
The good part is that about 70% of the Jeep Compass SUV is manufactured locally in the country including the engines. Speaking about the international market, the Jeep Compass SUV will be available in as many as 17 engine, gearbox and drive-train configurations.

Jeep Compass measures 4398 mm in length, 1819 mm in width and 1667 mm in height. It will resemble the Grand Cherokee in design and gets LEDs in its headlights and taillights. The typical Jeep style square wheel arches are clearly visible on the new car. Jeep Compass has been built on the small, wide and 4×4 architecture of Jeep cars, making it quite practical for India road conditions.
The first engine on offer is 2.0 liter turbocharged diesel unit that is good for 170 HP and 350 Nm of torque. This will carry a 6-speed manual gearbox. The second one on offer will be 1.4 liter, turbocharged petrol that will be good for 160 HP and 250 NM of torque. The latter carries an option between 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
Both the engines will offer 4×2 as well as 4×4 option in India. The top spec cars will comes with Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction system with mud, snow and rock driving options. It will also use differential locks but low drive range will enter later through TrailHawk variant. Jeep Compass will get 7 inch navigation unit with Apple Carplay and Andriod Auto support. Safety includes reverse parking camera with sensors, ESP, airbags, hill start assist and roll over mitigation.
