Koenigsegg had unveiled the insane Regera hybrid concept at the Geneva Motor Show last year and it had left the viewers spellbound. This year, they are back again with the production version of the Regera Hypercar.
At the first glance, the production version looks no different from the concept but Koenigsegg claims that they have brought in over 3000 changes from the concept to the production version.
The hypercar derives power from a twin-turbo 5.0 liter V8 charged engine capable of producing 1100 bhp by itself, and almost 1800 hp when combined with an electric motor with a peak torque of over 2000 NM.
Taking technological advancement one step further, Koenigsegg has eliminated the need of a traditional gearbox with the introduction of unique Direct-Drive system which Koenigsegg describes as “clutch-slip mechanism that uses the hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium/high speeds during fast acceleration. This allows the combustion engine to gain revs and power, thereby giving the sensation of a traditional downshift with the associated aural enjoyment, even without the traditional gearbox.”
The car can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 kmph in 6.6 seconds and it can skyrocket to 300 kmph in just 10.9 seconds. Given its light weight of around 1628 kg (kerb weight), it can hit the 300 kmph mark almost 2.6 seconds faster than the new Bugatti Chiron! No pricing information has been declared by Koenigsegg yet, but the company has already starting receiving pre-orders for the Regera.
