2020 Mahindra Thar is currently under testing and for the first time since the spy shots have started arriving online, a hard top variant has been spied doing rounds in the city traffic. The model looks smarter than ever, all thanks to the ribbed design seen from the top angle. The rear is seen with a glass section while the side profile is well-hidden under the camouflage pattern.
The new Thar is wider than the ongoing variant, featuring Jeep Wrangler-inspired front fascia and glass section. Unlike the older variant, the 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with a flat windshield glass like modern-day SUVs. The doors are using the old and reliable external hinge system while interiors are all-new with a more car-like feel.
The tires seen on the test car are carrying steel rims but most probably the production model will come with alloy wheels. The fender size has actually increased in comparison to the current-gen Thar as provision for even wider off-road tires is available on the car. The roof is said to be removable, helping buyers enjoy the sun and wind on a day when the weather is in the favour of the passengers. The front and rear lights will remain more or less similar to the current-gen Thar.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will feature a reworked interior with a better quality dash section, a decently-modern music player and impressive console section that proves to be in-line with other cars around the segment. The manual 4×4 system will remain intact to the car’s drivetrain while expecting the 2.0L, BS6-compliant engine to perform like a gem won’t be wrong.
The new chassis is derived from the same platform as Mahindra Scorpio while safety features like the reverse parking sensors, crash protection rating, ABS, and dual front airbags will arrive as standard. The price tag for the new car is expected to fall around INR 11-12 lakh (ex-showroom).
