Mahindra Opens Manufacturing Plant in Detroit | Mahindra Roxor Launch in 2018 – Mahindra recently inaugurated its new manufacturing facility in Detroit, USA. The city had its first manufacturing plant after 25 years. The occasion marked the presence of Executive Chairman Anand Mahindra and Lt. Governor of Michigan. This new facility costs $230 million (INR 1493 Crore approx.) and employs 250 workers at present.
Its annual capacity is 10,000 units and additional $600 million (INR 3896 Crore approx.) will be invested later to create 400 further jobs and increase in overall production. Total investment of Mahindra Group in US currently values at $1 billion and almost 30,000 people are employed with 30 manufacturing facilities around the country.
Mahindra Automotive North America, the sister concern of Mahindra Group for US, will launch an off-road specific product named Roxor in America in 2018. Rumors hint at a Thar based off-road product named Mahindra Thor for the coming months.
It can use the 1.6L engine used on Ssangyong Tivoli. Mumbai based Mahindra Group is visualizing future through their all new investment, trying hard to get a considerable chunk of sales in a market that has different trends when compared to India. Mahindra’s facility measures 150000 sq ft and could reveal the new product around end of 2017 or early 2018.
Mahindra presence in IT sector, utility vehicles and tractors in the US makes them good to understand the trends of the country. They have plans to build a global commercial platform that will be ready by 2020 and could be used in almost every country, depending upon their need and work environment.
The workforce at Detroit center will keep on increasing with added investments. The city will serve as outsourcing hub for Mahindra, helping create an opposite channel of work division where Indian and US talent can be preserved and presented in the best way possible.
